What got you into collecting autographs?

Why did you guys start collecting and what was your first significant autograph experience?

Well, when I was 7 i moved into a house with my stepdad and he had a ton of sweet autographs like Michael Jordan, Pete Rose, Joe Montana, Larry Bird, Muhammad Ali, Jay Leno, and Walter Payton. I guess he really got me into collecting and when I was 10 i got the best Christmas gift ever! My hero at the time and now is former NFL player Eddie George and my grandmother got me a signed photo for Christmas and ever since then I have been hooked on collecting!

I always wanted to get Eastenders autographs but i was too embarrased to ask my mum. Eventually about a year later i asked and she thought it was ok. So i sent out to the whole cast and a lot of email requests to celebs. Then later on i have started collecitng celebs.

wow! you guys are so lucky!
i have only ever had one reply. i have been collecting for about 2 years now and it was my cousins that got me interested. they started sending out letters to actors and actresses and have already got loads of replies. i have not sent out that many recently but hope to earn more soon.
do you have any advice on correct addresses etc.?

i dont really have any advice other than remembering that the more that u send out the more responses you will get

Hey!

Well, since a very young age (about 9 years old, I think), I started to develop a huge interest in handwriting and signatures (odd for a 9 year old, I know!). Also, I asked my parents about writing to my favourite musicians and actors, so they sort of helped me by buying me the envelope and helping me on what to write (still 9...). Of course, I didn't do the whole IRC/SASE thing so I never got a reply. :neutral: So I left it all right there when I realised it won't ever work out... or so I thought.

Seven years later, I discovered a site called Fanmail.biz (and what do you know!) - celebrities actually reply to their fans! At that time, I was searching for an address for two of my favourites actors - Josh Duhamel and Wentworth Miller. {love} I only had IRC which I got (and the last one ever in SA) at my post office, so I had to decide to whom I'm going to send it, and I picked Duhamel. About 4 months later, after coming back from vacation - he replied! It was amazing, to say the least. Since then, I was encouraged to give this fan mail thing another shot, and now an autograph cheers me up so much. I've received 2 autographs from Went Miller since, as well as many of my other idols.

I've always loved the thrill of receiving an autograph. I used to write to my favourite tv presenters requesting autographs when I was younger and I had a wall in my room which displayed them all. I kind of grew out of that as I got older, but then when I was 15 I started going to quite a few concerts and met a few support acts and got autographs from them. That's really what got me into collecting, and while searching for addresses I came across this site. I find autograph collecting so much fun and very thrilling, I intend to keep this hobby going for a long time!

Its so neat to hear about how everyone started to collect autographs.

My story goes: It was 2004, I was 17. I was watching a rerun of Friends. A commerical came on advertising the shows last season. I was over come with grief (I loved that show) and thought it would be really neat to get their autographs. So I went to my room and wrote them each a letter and put each note in a separate envelope and all into one bigger envelope. I then went online and I think I may have looked at Fanmail for an address but ultimately ended up on NBC. I mailed it off and in about 2-3 weeks the first autograph arrived. I believe it was Jennifer Anistons and I was so excited not just because I got an autograph but because she was my favourite character. After that they all started coming in...all except Ross. Im still waiting and trying to get his. Even though I know now that they are all pre prints I think there still my favourite ones. I became hooked and have been collecting ever since.

I always sent letters of request and never got them returned. Started when I was about seven. I gave up for such a long time (Too many years to count) and finally discovered THIS! So I did my research and found out how an SASE works and such. Now look at my collection
