about 4 years ago, when my sister was like 9 or 10, she wrote a letter to Dakota Fanning after finding an address on IMDB. she wrote just a simple little letter about how much she loved her. i don't remember or think she asked for a picture, but Dakota sent one, personalized and inscribed. i thought it was so cool, but didn't think anything of collecting at the time. (i was 13 or 14)
a few years later, i met a few celebs and got autographs. i liked the feeling of getting something personal from someone i admire, and eventually i found this site, which was the frosting on the cake so to speak haha
i've only been collecting for about 8 months, but i already have 25 authentic autographs. this really is an amazing and fun hobby to have

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day, I used to attend Washington Redskins home games with my father. Parking was a ---ch! Rather than fight the crowds and the traffic, we would wait around after the game for traffic to die down (a little). I overheard some kids talking about getting autographs from the players after the game. I always had a game program so my Dad and I (and a bunch of fans) would be crowded at he players exit waiting for to get our favorite player's autograph.
Because I was into this other relatives would run into celebrities or athletes and get autographs for me.
I outgrew this hobby as I cruised into adolescence and adulthood.
Midway through college, I got into comic book collecting (again). The shop where I got my comics from told me about a comic convention. I went to my first con---cold! I had NO clue of what was going on. Lucky for me it was a local con and I could drive home to scoop up my collection and bring it back to get it signed. I did that for a while and then I joined the Army which put my autograph collecting and comicon attending on hold.
After I got out of the Army I resumed attending the nearest comic book convention and again I was unprepared. A lot had changed in 15 years. This con was humungous by comparison to the last one I attended. It exposed me not only to comic professionals, but to Star Wars actors, sci-fi celebrities and other B-rated actors/actresses.
I didn't do TTM until years later as a lark. I got two Blade 2 posters through eBay (instead of one). I shipped the extra poster to Amen Ra Studios with a LOR and SASE. A week later I got it back signed by Wesley (the Main Man) Snipes. I was shocked. I had stumbled on to my first awesome success TTM. Since then I have been surfing the net to help me expand my collection. I began to contacting comic book pros, athletes and recently aotr/actresses TTM with moderate success. I still attend comicons and get some IP signatures.

I guess I'll say mine. As a teenager, I had huge crushes on some actors(Justin Berfield). I just wanted to write them a letter telling them that, so I got on the Internet looking for addys, but found nothing. That was 10 years ago, but the desire to write to actors never went away. I tried looking again last year and found some addys, but just sent fan letters. I accidently stumbled across this marvelous website, where I learned about SASEs. So I sent my 1st letter with SASE,(with classic actor Paul Picerni) and actually got a response! I didn't realize there were so many actors I like, and so many collectors too. Incidently, I did get a response from Justin Berfield like I wanted as a teen. Fanmail.biz, YOU ROCK!!!!
i have only ever had one reply. i have been collecting for about 2 years now and it was my cousins that got me interested. they started sending out letters to actors and actresses and have already got loads of replies. i have not sent out that many recently but hope to earn more soon. I agree with you, thanks for you sharing!
