Sending a thank you note

I was just wondering if anyone here has ever sent a thank you note to someone for replying to them or sending them an autograph, and what was the reason you sent your thank you.
I am just wondering if I should have sent a thank you to two people who sent me unexpected items back in October, but at the time I wasn't sure if it was what you should do or not or whether having second contact with them would be a good idea. Do you think it would be too late to do so?

I wrote a thank you note to Deanna Durbin when she sent me a letter and photo. I also sent her a little pressed flower, and she actually then sent ME a thank you note! I sent her a thank you note, because she rarely signs autographs, and she is my all time favorite, and just seems like such a nice person, so I wanted to thank her for her time and effort.
I think it would be nice to send a thank you note. I don't think it's to late, you could always say that you were sorry it took so long.

I used to sent thank you notes but then someone mentioned that if EVERYONE that got a response sent a thank you note, the person's mail would double!
That said, if it was an extra special reply or if it meant a lot to you, then go ahead.
As for the October ones, I think it might be a little late but if it was special, you might go ahead, but do apologize for taking so long to reply.

Hi!
I
rarely send "thank you" letters,
only when I have time and if the reply was unexpected and special to me.

So far I've only send a thank you letter to Charlie Cox (and I made him a gift) along with a questionnaire (because I wanted to ask him a few things!) and he very kindly replied, thanked me for the gift and filled out my questionnaire with nice, full answers. {love} He's amazing, needless to say!
Regards,
zanne

I've sent a thank you note a couple of times when I got really awesome responses. Once was to Robert Fyfe who plays Howard in Last Of The Summer Wine because he sent me a signed photo of Howard & Marina and not only did he sign and personalise it, he also got Jean Fergusson who plays Marina to sign it for me aswell! Another time was to Richard Carpenter as he sent me a signed photo, a preprint postcard of him & Karen and a letter answering all the questions I'd asked him in my letter.

I don't. I thank the performer several times in my letter for their amazing job and for signing my photos. {thumb2}

I have only ever sent a thank you letter to Jorge Garcia. I was so excited with my success because he is one of my favourite actors. He sent me a signed and personalised picture and he answered all the questions I asked him. I really wanted to write back and thank him and just update him a little on what I had been up to since my last letter. I was not expecting a reply at all I just thought he may like to read my letter if he had the time. But to my surprise he replied again with another signed and personalised picture, along with a handwritten letter!! I was so happy
You don't have to write back to thank a celebrity, like already said, that would just double to amount of fanmail they get if everyone wrote back to thank them. I think maybe thank just your favourite celebs if you really want to, but an idea would be not to include your address to show that you are not after another response.

I've only sent a handful of thank you notes - and that's to people who have sent me unexpected replies. I've sent the thank you notes to Medal of Honor recipients and Tuskegee Airmen. And that was only because a few of them sent me signed books or other things that I really never expected.

I think it's doubley exciting to get a signed book as you get an autograph and something to read! It's also incredibly generous of the person you wrote to to send a book as it's extra postage cost as well as giving away a book for free

I would definitely send a thank you note if I recieved a book {thumb2}
