Do you ever feel embarrased about collecting autographs?

Personally i do.
I'm collecting autographs for my skills section for my bronze duke of edinbrough and I find it so embarrasing when friends ask me what im doing for this section. I don't know what i'm embarrased about. Perhaps its just no one in my age group collect autographs and im doing something different. I think to my self they are probably thinking why do you bother or what the hell? Maybe they are just in experienced and dont think that you can collect autographs TTM or they just might not think its a very good hobby.
I also feel embarrased in front of my parents. When i started collecting i was requesting autographs from people i dont care about and im not a fan of e.g Tony Blair! I look back and think why did i do it. I'm only 14 years old and I'm not into politics and I feel i should be spending my money on other things or saving it for when I'm older. I do however bare in mind its a hobby i enjoy and Ive learnt from my mistakes. I now only send to people i really want autographs off so I dont spend as much money at all. My mum especially is so happy now to see me with an autograph ive received that im so happy about
What about you?

I do :neutral:
Sometimes I have to post some requests on my way to school and my friends ask why I post so many letters. Sometimes I say I am entering a competition or sending letters, photos, cards to family. Only my family and best friend know that I collect autographs.

Wow! Are we related? My parents say that it is only a bit of writing on a piece of paper. And when my sister comes over to the computer and i am writing a LOR, she reads it out and laughs
They think i am obsessed with autographs - I'm not - They don't understand that you have to write quite a few letters because it takes some time to get a reply.
I don't really want to tell anyone at school, but i think if they came round my house and looked through my collection, they would think it was cool.
So - Carry on collecting! Forget what others say - We will support you!!

NO. I enjoy my hobby and all my friends and family think it's really cool that I actually have written to many of these celebs that they themselves grew up watching on TV and at the movies. {thumb2} Plus I've learned a lot a geography by writing to all sorts of countries and states and finding out interesting facts about celebrities that most people don't know. I think you should be proud of your chosen topic for your class EastendersFan. {thumb2}

Sort of!
I'm only 24 but I like old movies, tv shows and music. Infact, I live in a time warp

I'm not so much embarrassed about collecting autographs, I just cringe a bit when I tell my friends who I've met/written to and they've never even heard of them!
I'll happily tell anyone that I collect autographs coz as hobbies go, it's not so strange. I'm not so happy about telling them whose autographs I have though
At least here I can be out and proud! {thumb2}

Thanks for your replies and your support
Occasionally i post my letters after school and i have to walk down the hill to my local post office where everyone from school goes after school. I post them descretly. At weekends i put my letters in a plastic bag to walk down to my nearest post box
Ive learnt a lot too like you Ryan. I'm learning about Royal Mail and how to send letters to other countries etc. Also im improving my english when i write letters myself which may come in handy some day {thumb2}

I hate to admit it...but I do at school.
I have a couple friends who love to hear about my requests.
But, when other people over hear at school or something..I feel a bit embarrassed.
My mom understands, she thinks it's cool.
My sister thinks it makes me a dork though.
But, I really couldn't care less.
I'd never stop.
I love it!
