UK Postage? I am now Suspicious.

Hello all,

I just wondered what sized SAE every sends with their requests, and what postage you apply?

For the last 3 months, I have had no new additions through the post at all, after a steady stream of at least 4 or 5 a week. I became suspicious, so sent myself a plain piece of white card in the normal A5 sized envelope (half the A4 size) with the usual 1st class stamp on it.

It took 5 and a half weeks to be delivered, and was clearly ripped open when it did. It was delivered in a plastic bag apologising for the damage and delay.

Now I am worried that previous replies I have had, have been stolen by someone along the line and not been delivered.

I appreciate it may just be that the people I have written to, have not replied. But after seeing success' from you guys from people I have written to in the last few months, and the sudden lack of replies - I doubt it.

I rang Royal Mail, who advised that I have not been putting the right postage on the envelope? However, this does not explain why lots and lots of previous envelopes have all been delivered fine, and then the sudden stop.

I'm currently down 60-70ish autographs to date :(

Any one else had a similar problem, and what postage do you use?

Thanks.

You should have no problem putting a 1st class stamp on a C5 envelope. I put a 2nd class stamp on that size which is the maximum that is acceptable, therefore a 1st class stamp is fine. Im not sure about your problem though :?

Don't get me started on uk postage!

My mail gets picked up from my house as I'm not near a mail box and sometimes it doesn't even make it to the sorting office unless I make a fuss (and it miraculously appears!). I'm not a fan of royal mail service at all!!!!

Well the Royal Mail has gone down in my books in recent months, its not a great service anymore. If you rang them and they said that you haven't been putting on the correct postage all of a sudden I would suggest you going to your local Post Office and getting a 'Size Chart' and 'Postage Price Chart'.

I use both of these, it may sound a bit over the top but since I started using them my mail hasn't been reurned to me. The size chart basically arranges small letters, large letters and parcels (which you wont need). If you need to send to the US I would also suggest weighing your item, simple scales will do then go to the Royal Mail website and it will work out how much it will cost to send.

Like I said, it may be over the top but it works... {up}

Well I had a look on the 'large letter size' rules, and as far as I can see, the A5 envelopes I send (half an A4) should be fine with a 1st class stamp.

So why are they not being delivered?!?! Annoyed is not the world.

I've had no problems sending C5 envelopes with the small stamps, I cant see why there'd be a problem I'm afraid.

Hmmmmm.

Now I'm in a Catch22 moment. If I send the smaller envelopes as my SAE, I run the risk of the person not being able to fit their photo in one!

:shock:

It sounds silly but I get really annoyed with the post. I've been charged quite different amounts at different post offices for requests which contain pretty much the same items. I'm also down on a few requests which a lot of people have had back; that's not necessarily the fault of Royal Mail, but with our postman, it's tempting to blame them. {down}

I'm not sure what size my envelopes are, actually. They're smaller than the ones I used to send but will fit a 6x4 nicely. I think I need to re-write to a few people and send bigger ones.

im not a fan of royal mail either, i have had many things stolen and also broken and all they say is they can do nothing about it, and to stop things being stolen to post it recorded delivery! which costs too much just for a small envelope :( ... have you tried putting large stamps on letters ? because depending on the letter size they may need large stamps
