how do you feel about celebrities charging to personalize
hey guys lately i have been hearing a lot about celebrities at autograph/sports shows signings etc charging a extra fee to personalize on top of there initial fee. now i wouldn't mind it if was a couple dollars more but Ive heard of personalization fee's that were over 80 dollars. ill give a prime example of this, tomorrow Mario lemeux is doing a signing in my area and hes charging i think 140 or 150 dollars(somewhere in this range) for the autograph alone and 60 dollars to personalize,so over 200 dollars for a autograph really thats ridiculous. i am a big lemeux fan but theirs no way im paying over 200 dollars for a autograph.
what do you think about this?
what do you think about this?

i was just asking what you think about celebrities charging a separate fee to personalize
Re: how do you feel about celebrities charging to personalize
I'm rather indifferent about personalization fees in general, but $80? That's crazy.

yes Joe montana was charging 80 dollars if you wanted your item personalized and that's on top of the 100 plus he charges for his autograph(needles to say i didnt pay that). signings are going to be ruined with fee's really soon,we got people charging a ton just to personalize, soon there probably going to be charging to take pictures with people. i dont have a problem paying to meet someone i really like and get their autograph and a lot of the times a photo taken with them but yes some of these fees are unbelievable.dfreely wrote:I'm rather indifferent about personalization fees in general, but $80? Some celebs charge because they have no other way of making a living, example, some retired ball players burn through their money (or they didn't make alot) and they have no real way of making any money, they have on marketable skill and they're past their prime, doing an autograph show is a great way for them to make cash, it sucks for us, but I understand it. I know someone above mentioned Shatner, I believe Shatner is good about signing non Trek stuff for free (I'm not an expert), but there are a number of celebs who get sick of hearing about a certain movie or tv show, so they either stop signing that stuff, or they start charging, Star Trek and Star Wars actors are great examples of these.
Some people have also had secondary roles in Star Trek (a couple of lines per episodes), they never got rich from the shows, and it's hard for them to get acting work (type casting), so charging fans for an auto is a great way to make a living, I'm sure they don't enjoy it either, and is probably a blow to the ego, but when you have a family to support you do what you gotta do.

celebrities charging is not a problem to me i think its fine as long as its reasonably priced, but some are charging extra if you want to get the autograph personalized thats what i was trying to say.
