Am I able to enclose song lyrics (not about them, that would be a bit weird) I have written with the letter to a singer if they have inspired me to get out there and sing and get over my shyness. Maybe, this will increase my chances of getting a response.
What do you think?
Good or bad idea?

dont send them your lyrics...unless youve copywritten them
they may like them enough to steal them and use them. and then you would have no way of proving that you wrote them first.

Re: Good or bad idea?
It depends some companies refuse that kind of stuff. Like sending a script to an actor/tress, or pitching an idea in a "fan letter". I'd imagine the same goes for a signer. Plus they might steal it as mentioned.
If you think the lyrics are actually professional grade stuff you can "poor man's copywrite" by simply making a copy and mailing it to yourself. You don't open the letter you sent to yourself, you simply keep it sealed as proof if someone ever did use your material. You can keep a document with a number and the songs title; mark each envelope with a number so you know what's inside w/o having to open it.

You might not get a success that way. They might consider it unsolicited material and return your stuff to you unsigned (if you send it to an agent or manager). They might just destroy it, ala Zachary Quinto. Most of the "upright" folks in show biz would rather avoid a potential lawsuit, so chances are they would just return it to you with no explanation and no autograph.
