Help - Do you think it is OK to .....

.... Write back to a celebrity asking for another autograph? ....- I'll explain:
I got a signature back today and it was a copy on CHEAP photo paper of a DVD insert - I sent THAT because in case I didn't get it back, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it - Well, thankfully it DID come back but it was smudged where he wrote my name and a little extra - Due to the cheap photo paper that I now regret using. The actual autograph is about 95% OK, but like all of you I am sure that you would like the whole package to look as perfect as possible, being TRUE collectors and all.
Now, since I know I rec'd a success and know the address is good and all, do you think it is "OK" or fine to write back and explain the it was smudged and ask for another? I would send the actual DVD cover this time since I know all is set with this person - I just didn't know how to go about it .... He is NO way a big star, but in the same sense, he is to me.
So, please if you will, let me know what u all think and how I could and should go about this - I don't think there is anything wrong with me explaining in a letter that it was smudged, ask for another, send the DVD insert, SASE, etc - But I value all of your opinions ... Thank You.

Well what I would do, is not even mention it was smudged. And just send a request like you did before. I'm a beginner, so I guess I don't know what I'm doing, but that is what I'd do!
Good Luck!

Hi, Mjr Frank Burns!
yes, I think it’s ok. It actually happened to me: I just sent out a second request explaining the problem.
BUT never forget that
you never know with “second requestsâ€! That's the REAL problem.
I mean…
You got a dedicated autograph the first time… will you get another personalized one the second time?

Will your request actually be forwarded again to the celebrity (I once got a great reply. Well, so I immediately mailed out a DVD insert but, in the while, that star moved to a different agency and – yeah - I guess my package is still there…

)?

Will that person actually sign again for you?

Will your request (or the second reply!) get lost in the mail?

Well, again, you never know!
Good luck!

What I do in these types of situations where it comes back either bent, wet, smeared, or any other imperfection is this; I write back typically with the first line "I think you will remember me writing you last week. You were extremely generous in signing an autograph for me. I truely appreciate your time and consideration. Unfortunately it was damaged in transit. I included the item so you can see I am not trying to take advantage of your good nature. I hope to frame this photo for all to enjoy, which is why I would prefer one in perfect condition." Then go from there. Honesty is the best policy. And 9 out of 10 times they send back the damaged photo with the new one signed. A few times I got a handwritten and signed note and extra items they send.

What I would do is write another letter to the actor, but I wouldn't mention that you already sent him a letter before asking for an autograph..just write another fan mail letter
