Should you write to athletes differently than celebrities?

I was just wondering: I wanted to send to some NFL players and wanted to know if you should write to them differently than actors, actresses, etc.

I guess the only differences would be instead of saying you like their last movie you would have to compliment on their last season and / or career? Maybe quote some stats?
