When a autograph is defined a "promo shot", does that mean it is real or fake?

I think it refers to the actual picture not the photo with the autograph. For example a lot of Movies and TV shows have Promo shots for the actors in character rather than a plain old head shot.

A promo shot promotes a film/album etc. Here is an example:

This one is of Dido. It is a promo sot because it is a promotional image that was taken to promote her second album Life For Rent. Personally, I love promotional pictures. Especially if they are 8 x 10.
