So my family and I went to a town-wide yard sale yesterday and I was lucky enough to find some autographed books. I paid only a quarter each for these!! Remember, check ALL books!!

Allison Bottke is a popular public speaker and author of over 23 books. She has also been on television, most notably The 700 Club.

Frank Roderus is the author of over 300 books. He won the Spur Award for western fiction twice. He has written numerous "Longarm" novels under the house-name Tabor Evans.
I looked in one and saw it was autographed;then I noticed there was two more books by this author on the table and I thought, "Now what are the chances the other two are autographed as well? Well, they were! See, you just NEVER know!!

Wow this is really cool. Congrats. Now I'm going to be more determined the next time I go to Goodwill.

Great finds! I don't really look at the books when I go to yard sales, but I will every now and then. My sister found a signed copy of 'Jerusalem's Heart' by Bodie & Brock Thoene for .50 cents!! My aunt also found me a signed photo of Kenny Baker (R2-D2 from Star Wars) but I don't know how much she payed for it. It is authentic though.

Okay, I have to play Devil's advocate here and ask whether it it is, in fact, cool to find a book autographed by an author you've never heard of nor have any interest in. What is the appeal? An autograph for the sake of it being an autograph? Or is just the treasure hunt aspect that's fun, which I suppose I could understand? It just seems like after finding it you're left with a book that has little personal or emotional (and in most cases monetary) value. I'm not criticizing here; everyone should be allowed to have their fun. I just want to know what the appeal is for you guys.

It's the appeal of finding an autograph, and at, hopefully, a steal!

I, personally, collect autographs of famous people, whether they be movie stars, TV stars, singers, authors, political figures, astronauts, sports stars, etc....I, maybe unfortunately, don't collect just a certain subject. The thrill is also picking up an autograph of someone you know nothing about, taking it home, getting on the internet, and finding out if they are somebody or not, which is how I found out about the two autographs i found and posted. I also found two other signed books yesterday at the sale, but when I try to look up their names, nothing came up, so they aren't "worth anything" to me(which is why I didn't post them). It's a chance you take. Plus, if you don't want the autograph you find, if you're not interested in that person, someone else might be, so you can possibly sell it or trade it.

I went to a sale at a school and found an autographed photo of Margaret O'Brien that I thought was so cool! Plus the lady at the table I don't think realized or didn't care so she gave it to me for free.

For me, it's to build a nice collection that I can eventually sell or give away to future generations when I get too old to care, or when I die.

its just for the fact of collecting. my goal is to aquire as many signatures as i can... even though most of my requests have been towards some of my favorite stars, i'd pick up a signed book for a quarter if given the chance just to add it to my autograph collection
especially for these reasons if i've never heard of them
A- might be somebody famous that i've never heard of (award winning writer etc.)
B- might be dead, or it might be from someone who didn't sign a whole lot making the signature a rare addition
C- might be something that i could trade or offer as a gift to someone else that would really enjoy it
