So I was helping cleaning out my Grand Mothers attic and we found this autograph baseball. She has no idea who it is signed by and neither do I. She told me to keep the ball because she knows I love autographs. She doesn't even know how the ball got up there in the first place. So if anyone can help me out and identify who this is I will really appreciate it. Thank you for your help.

I did a quick look down this list: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/ but couldn't find anything. It does look like the last name starts with a "D" and ends with either a "y" or "g." Maybe I missed something, or perhaps the signer could have been a career minor leaguer. There are some clues you may have looked over. What kind of ball is it? Is it designated/approved for use in a specific professional league?

Asking these questions, and more, might help you find out where to look. Unless someone else comes in behind me that knows who it is...

Not sure who but I see Kyle Daly (no idea if that's a real player but that's how i interpret the signature). At least I think the first starts with a K and last with a D-ending in Y. I am pretty good with baseball stuff but this one dosen't ring any bells.

If you can give us some more info:
Where is it from, where does your G-Ma live.
Is there a local minor/major league team?
Any local hometown baseball stars?
On the ball what does it say, "Official major leage" or International League, Florida State League, etc. ?
Can you get some guess-timate of what year or decade this came from?
If she knows who got it signed, her husband, brother, father, etc.; who was their favorite player/team.

With some answers to those questions it should be much easier to narrow down the possibilities. It appears the ball is game used. Did she have it in that display case? If so I would imagine the person who got it signed did so at the game they got the ball.

The ball was packed in a box that she said might have been moved hear from Decatur, GA. It is a Rawlings official ball from the American league. She lived there from 1973 to 1994. Decatur is right outside of Atlanta so my guess is its someone from the Braves. The display case is from my shelf and was not with the ball. I'm still confused to who it can be. Thats about as much information I have on the ball.

Well, that's interesting. An AL ball that may have been signed in a NL city. Kind of throws a bit of a twist into it!

I don't know for sure but I think the last name has an "i" in it. Or is that a slight spot/stain on the ball? I also thought the first name might be Kyle, but there is no tail on the "y" that I can see.

Here's another place you can look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlanta_Br ... ime_roster but once again I only skimmed through the last names that started with a "D" and had no luck.

Now I'm getting obsessed by this. I love doing these kinds of things ever since I first saw the show History Detectives on PBS...

Edit: I forgot to ask... What league president's name is on the ball? This will help me to narrow down my time frame for my search.

It's Kirby Puckett. Most likely obtained in 1991 when the Twins played the Braves in the World Series.
Here's a similar signature found on ebay
