Bad idea?

I am trying to decide if I should rewrite to Beverly Cleary. This will be my 3rd attempt. My first time, I got a preprinted postcard. The second time, I contacted her and told her I was doing an author study for school on her and I asked for any information about her she'd like to reply. I never heard back. Each time I did include a SASE. I was thinking of sending her a book this time. Should I forget it or is it worth another try?

She's currently 94 years old so it's tough to tell if she would be willing to sign, or even able to sign. Of course I have no idea how active she is these days, so I'd err on the side of caution. I also have no idea of what her personality is like, or that sort of thing. Then and again, if you don't mind losing the book and the price of sending then what have you got to lose?
But if I had to choose, I'd weigh in with "bad idea."

you could send a book plate?
If you've already had two failures then I'd think your chances were slim of getting it back. Besides which, if she is going to sign for you, then sending back an envelope is going to be a lot easier than parcelling up a book to get it back to you.

Thanks to both of you for the help. She's my favorite author of all time and one of my most wanted, next to the Black Eyed Peas. What exactly is a bookplate? I've heard of them but I don't know what they are.
