I wanted to post a section on DVD cover success only.
I have a ton of DVD's and started sending out the covers to be signed. they are easy to send out and great when you get them signed. Plus it shows the person that you really like there movie and not somebody who doesnt care. here's my list of success using DVD covers:
Mel Stuart- Willy Wonka DVD Cover
Sarah Jessica Parker- The Family Sone DVD Cover
Glenn Close- Fatal Attraction DVD Cover (She is Hot in that movie)
Christia Bale- Batman begins and Dark Knight DVD Covers
Dakota fanning- Charlotte's Web and Hide and Seek DVD covers
Tommy Chong- 2 Cheech and Chong DVD covers
Rob Reiner- The Princess Bride DVD Cover
James Earl Jones- 3 Star Wars and The Sandlot DVD Covers

I dont collect dvd covers nearly as much as photos but I started getting in the habit of throwing them in with a glossy 8x10. I dont like sending them because I would hate to have a dvd without a cover if I never got it back. Anyway heres the ones I have:
Katee Sackhoff, Edward James Olmos, Grace Park, Tricia Helfer, Michael Trucco and Michael Hogan Battlestar covers. I sent the inside covers that had the stars on them. I actually got just the boxes off Ebay and sent the covers so if I never got them back I still had an extra. I have almost every disc cover signed since these cast members were on one or two disc covers for every season. Michael Trucco is the only one that was on only one cover.
Tony Shalhoub same thing for the dvd insert to disc one on each season of Monk.
Catherine Zeta Jones Intolerable Cruelty and The Terminal
Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Aaron Eckhart on Dark Knight cover and the first two on begins cover.
Daniel Radcliffe on dvd inserts for the first four movies.
Mean Girls cover signed by Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried
A few more but those are the ones I can think of.

I have no problem sending the inserts when they have them because they are often the same as the cover but i rarely send a actual dvd cover because i don't want to end up with a dvd missing its cover if i don't get it back and even if i do get it back signed i can't put it back in the case with the movie because the plastic on the case probably isn't acid or pvc free so i send pictures 99% of the time.

thats an interesting aspect. somebody got experiences with that? Would like to know what happens with the signature when it's 5 or 10 years in a dvd-case...

I put all of my loose DVD's in a big folder like case that holds 300 movies with sleeves . So I just have the cases lying around and started sending them out to be signed.
