Post Office Fail
Has this happened to anyone before?
On Thursday, I sent a letter, SASE and bookplate to Eric Carle. I went into the post office to pay for it, and in front of the post office clerk I put the SASE in the bigger envelope. I then COMPLETELY sealed it. On Friday I got my SASE back with nothing in it. I was angry because the clerk must have taken it out. I sent an email to Eric Carle explaining the situation but I don't have high hopes of getting it back.

Re: Post Office Fail
I'm a little confused, but I think i have the jist of it. Why would the post office people do that? Seems absolutley ridiculous and a jerk move. What do you think was his mindset when he did that?
In space, no one can hear you scream.
Re: Post Office Fail
Yeah, I don't think the post office would have done that. It must have been a mistake on Eric's part. Once you seal an envelope up the potal employees can not re-open it without your permssion first.
I hope you get everything worked out soon!

It couldnt have been him because it can't travel to him in ONE day. It was the people at the post office. I have no idea why.

Re: Post Office Fail
This is why you should seal your envelopes at home obviously...The less the postal workers know about whats in your envelopes the better.Once they know you collect autographs your chances of theft are greater,I know people always say they wont steal its against the law and stuff but that wont stop some people and obviously someone opened your envelope and sent back your sase after reading your personal letter and now they know you collect autographs. {down}Why didnt you seal it up at home ?
Re: Post Office Fail
I didn't seal it at home because I needed a stamp for the SASE.

I always buy the sase stamps in advance and seal it up at home because i dont want the postal workers to know my business .Tabby wrote:I didn't seal it at home because I needed a stamp for the SASE.

I don't have the money to buy a bunch at a time. I used my spare change to pay for it. But I see what you're saying. I might just use the kiosk from now on.

Yeah it sucks i know and we like to believe people are honest and good but unfortunately some arent and just because they work for the government doesnt make them honest, just like there will always be corrupt cops, corrupt politicians there will be corrupt postal workers.I do my best to hide the fact i collect autographs but most of my return envelopes look the same and i know for a fact that there has been some i should have got back and didnt so i know mail theft does happen but i cant do anything about it. I love this hobby and i like writing the letters and most celebs are nice the only thing that bothers me about it is having to count on the postal system to get whats rightfully mine, the thought of all my work and the celebs kindness all so some postal worker can have my autograph annoys me or possibly take it to the wrong house by accident.I just wish theer was a better way!Tabby wrote:I don't have the money to buy a bunch at a time. Re: Post Office Fail
That really sucks, Tabby.
I do buy my stamps in bunches, I have £20 in UK stamps, and $18 in US Stamps here.
My local PO (UK) know that I collect autographs, nice people (2 OAPs), and they only know as when the Wallace and Gromit stamps came out, they noticed I was sending a letter to Nick Park, and they asked if I was getting something signed (I answered Yes, my 'First Day' cover [Royal Mail do covers which have to be bought on or before the first day of stamp issue, with all the stamps on it, and exclusive stuff], and they thought it was cool). Luckily, I did send that one via Recorded mail, so I know for a fact that it has been signed for and delivered successfully.
Normally though, I throw them into the post box outside, no reason to give it to the clerk?
Call up the Postal Service and complain, rather illegal.
Best of luck!
