Putting Resend in your letter

When you resend, do you put it in your letter telling that that is your Nth time sending?

No, I wouldn't do that. There could be all sorts of reasons one never heard back, from them being too busy at the time, getting it mixed up and sending it to someone else to the reply being misdelivered by the mail.

I just wouldn't go there.

Other opinions will certainly be available.

Since I hardly ever send a letter more than once, I DO in fact mention that I sent a previous attempt. Reason being, let's say that for some reason your earlier letter was delayed or something... then you write another from the point of view that you haven't sent anything before that. So, potentially, the person gets two or more letter from you saying the same thing and not acknowledging the other. It makes you look less genuine in your letter, like you send out multiple letters and don't really care who you send to...regardless of any sentiment you put in your attempt. But that's just my humble opinion. :-)

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Just depends on how long it has been since I wrote the person. I rarely do double-writes, though.

That is the correct ettiquete. I know that lots of agencies keep track of who they send too so people don't ''spam'' them. It is better to simply be honest.

I've only re-sent to a couple of people; both times, I've apologized for writing again in case they come across both letters. I don't see what's wrong with that.

So far I've only sent 2 resends. Both after more than a year waiting. I think I know why I didn't get them the first time (typed letter, one of the few that didn't come back + the letter was very, very short). After seeing a new success from 1 of them I decided to re-write. Indeed with a pen this time. I didn't mention that I wrote before, but I would do that if I would have resent after say 6 months or so. But after a year, nearly a year and a half even, I just completely re-wrote my letter.

So in my opinion I think it would be the time between the send and resend that would make me put it in or not.

I keep wondering if I should resend handwritten letters to the celebs I sent typed letters to. I got a lot of responses back before I switched back to handwritten, but quite a few of my June/July requests, that I haven't received back, were with typed letters.

@capmonte: I received about 95% of my typed letters back. Now a year and a half after I sent those (sent my first handwritten out in January this year) I decided to rewrite at least 2 of those I haven't got back. But sometimes it can take a while! I got 2 responses on typed letters after over 400 days. So I (personally) would wait at least a year. If you don't have anything back by then, try again :)

That sounds reasonable; thanks Nicole! :)
