First off i live in canada so we don't get mail delivery on saturday like in the u.s. which already kinda sucks lol But this year because of xmas and boxing day falling on a saturday and sunday there will be no mail delivery the monday and tuesday following. So 4 days in a row without mail delivery & then they deliver it 3 days and then 3 more in a row without delivery because of new years day falling on a saturday... {down} So basically in a 10 day period we only get mail delivery 3 days. I am curious how it is in the u.s. ??? I am still hoping to get one more autograph before the end of the year... :? [ca]

The US Postal Service is proposing a 5-day delivery week to Congress. So far, it doesn't seem to have gone anywhere.

The only postal holidays here that are coming up are Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Tough luck up there with all those mail-free days.

Well, the past few weeks The Netherlands had to do with Postal Strikes. I don't think they've really worked away all the mail that stayed behind as I'm missing some Christmas Cards I know have already been send. Normally in The Netherlands it is sent one day, delivered the next. That's how I know many of the mail is still missing and/or not delivered.
The only 'extra' no mail days will be Christmas Saturday and New Years Saturday.

We have a 6 day mail delivery system, but the news has been going around they wanted to propose a 5 day system. I hope not as I think it will result in more strikes (i.e due to people losing their job, having to work less for less money).

I'm sure it will all work out about the same. Whatever doesn't get delivered on Monday and Tuesday should be in your mail box on Wednesday, theoretically at least. So it really shouldn't affect you that much.

My guess is vice-versa. The workers would want it a five day week, it means they don't have to work weekends. And if that day is cut, perhaps wages could go up a bit?

I think TNT Postal workers can forget on a rise the upcoming few years :P  All these strikes have cost the company loads of money and lots of people using their service.
As far as I know the usual weekend help (Saturday help) are students or people who only work on Saturday. The regular people only walk on Saturday if they really have to. So the only ones that would get fired would be the student that's helping on a Saturday. Perhaps you are right and the workers won't mind cutting the one day, but wages going up.. not something I see happening.

I've applied for a job there last year. I declined because I heard what I would earn..... Clean (with all taxes taken off) €3,- per hour for a 9 hour week.. so per month that would be €108. Oh and all repairs on bikes are for yourself to pay. A rise would certainly be nice for these people seeing as they go through all weather, but I just don't see that happening, not even with a 5 day week and the current economy.

Same here in the UK. We have mail on the 24th and then not until the 29th. Then nothing the 1st and 3rd. They stopped Sunday collections awhile ago too.
