Lois Duncan no longer signing TTM

Sadly, wonderful author Lois Duncan will no longer be signing through the mail. I wrote her an email awhile back of my concern. I felt bad about posting my success because I know she got spammed after that. I explained the situation to her and we had a nice conversation. First it was this:

You're so kind to warn me about this.
I am being wrong dry by the cost of postage in mailing out bookplates,
and I think I will stop that practice altogether, especially now that
you've told me about people like this.

With gratitude,
Lois Duncan

Then, this:
Well, I've learned my lesson -- thanks to your feedback. I just
responded to an e-mail from someone named "Bobby" saying I'd changed my
policy and no longer was mailing autographs. From now on my only
autographs will be on books that people buy at a book signing.

Thank you again for putting me onto the alert for this type of thing.

With gratitude--
Lois Duncan

I will always treasure my reply I got from her. She is a great author and wonderful lady. I'm sorry it had to come to this. Thank the spammers.

:? Who are Spammers? I thought Spammers were computer people. I mean people who spam your e-mail with junk mail. How can they spam a celebrity?? I am confused....

People who abuse celebrity e-mail addresses by requesting autographs of people they aren't even a fan of.

I sent her a nice long email to her recently and got a similar response. It was nice that she took the time to reply to me.

"Hello, Jonathan,

Thank you for liking I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER and for being kind enough to write and tell me so.

I've stopped sending people autographs, because i was getting asked to do that so often that the cost of postage was more than I could handle. Also, I discovered that some of the people who were requesting autographs weren't really doing so because they loved my books. They were selling the autographs on line.

I'm sure you're not one of those people, but having set that rule for myself, I can't start breaking it for one person and not others.

I hope you understand.

Warm wishes,
Lois Duncan
"
I completely understand though. She's such a nice lady.

I'm very sorry this happened to you, but I'm also very glad you're understanding about it. This is what happens when people spam someone for a free autograph. I'm sorry she had to get taken advantage of like this. She's already been through enough. People are so heartless.

It's alright. You didn't ruin it for everyone else, unlike a certain person you told me about lol. Hopefully I'll get to meet her in person one day though. I'm very tempted to just buy an autographed book too, as a matter of fact.

Oh yeah! I think she sells them on her website. I'd really like to read Who Killed My Daughter? though I'm sure it'll be difficult to read, emotionally. It's nice of her to have that service available for fans.
