Manchester Utd help

Hi.

I wrote to Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Bobby Charlton, Nobby Stiles, Ryan Giggs & Michael Owen individually using the Old Trafford address. I sent them a LOR, SAE & 2 index cards that I wanted them to sign. I am looking to raise money for a charity so I stated that I was intending to auction off one of the index cards for this charity.

So, a few days later I got a reply regarding Owen...my index cards had been returned unsigned but they had enclosed a signed Man U picture card.
Then today I received a letter from Man U saying that I have to fill in a form online for charity requests and this has to be done 6 weeks before the charity event! I don't know if this letter covers all the other people that I wrote to or just one of them or what.

It's a bit annoying because I'm sure that if I didn't state I was requiring an autograph for a charity auction I probably would have received some of my index cards signed.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this from Man Utd?

Hi :-)

I'm a big United fan and i've never been asked to do this for personal requests.

I've just normally sent a letter and SAE and received back signed index cards.

Not all players have replied but a few have. Successes have been Alex Ferguson, Paul Scholes (signed my own photo that i sent), Michael Owen, Ji Sung Park, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Edwin Van Der Sar, Bobby Charlton (signed birthday card for my Dad), Nobby Stiles, Lou Macari, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, Bryan Robson.

Failures so far have been Javier Hernandez, Dimitar Berbatov, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney (just received a load of photocopy signed cards), Nani, Darren Fletcher, just had no reply from those.

Maybe it's just if you're asking for a few at once, cos i've only ever wrote to one player at a time over a period.

I remember a few years ago tho, my old boss done a charity auction and asked loads of clubs for pics and united didn't give him anything ! Arsenal sent him a really nice big team signed photo, but United seem quite sensitive about it, they stopped players signing at training apparently cos too much was turning up on ebay they said.

Hope that helps anyway. Maybe ask Arsenal for a donation :-)

Thanks a lot for your response, very useful.

I just found it strange that I received the Owen signed picture card but then got the letter stating that I had to register online for charity items. I guess each person (or group of people) may have their own personal assistant, so Owen’s PA just decided to send the signed picture card but maybe Ferguson’s PA thought the online charity registration was the better route. I'm hoping that I could still get my index cards signed from a couple of the other Man U people I sent to.

Fingers crossed, I will keep you posted.

If I don’t, then I will write to them again in a few weeks and not state that I'm collecting for charity :)
