I was just wondering.. once I wrote a letter to Jerry lewis asking for an autograph and he sent me one..... now i want to write to Alan Rickman and I would love an autograph.... Should I supply the photo?? is that how it works??

Yes, it's always polite to send photos with your request and a SASE. For Alan don't send any Harry Potter photos as he won't sign those, but will sign any other photo from his other films.

He won't sign harry potter photos?? how come? Snape is my favorite character in HP

Mainly because that's his most well known role and he dislikes that people think of him as only being Snape and not focusing on all the other films he's done. Weird I know, but even in-person he won't sign HP items. a friend of mine travelled THREE hours to see him and only brought his HP poster and alan saw it and said "I'm Not Doing Harry Potter" and kept signing for the other fans who brought non-HP pics.

That encounter is on youtube, i'll have to search for it.

To the OP, I always supply the picture. I like picking out what I'm going to send and I usually custom make the photos I send.

Not really. He is granting US a favour, so therefore he has every right to stipulate the conditions.

Anyway, to the op. I would always send something-even if it is an index card- just in case. However, most celebs often will provide their own picture if need be.

It really isn't! Rickman was massive long before HP.

Anyway, I think sending a picture is the best way. Sometimes a celeb might not have anything to hand that they can sign and having a picture right there makes their life easy and increases your chance of a reply.
