Bye Bye Autograph Collecting

Hi! Today, I decided to quit autograph collecting. I've spent wayyyy to much money. over $100 dollars in two months, and haven't even received three successes. I realized today that celebrities simply ignore me. I can send something BEFORE the other person sent something, to the same exact address, and I NEVER get it back. NEVER. So why waste MY money & MY time, if my requests and letters are gonna be ignored. There's no fun in watching other people wait literally a week and get this beautiful picture signed back while I wait months and still don't get anything back.
have fun in your hobbies.
xoxo, Kyla.

I'm so sorry to hear that you haven't been getting many successes back. I know it took a while for me when I first started to get replies back from people. I've learned over the years to be patient and wait for them. Sometimes it takes years and I've had to wait extra long on some of mine even if people got their's back and I didn't, but eventually they did arrive.

How do you know that? How long have you waited? You have to be patient. You're not going to get a response within a week for most people - if you do the person is lucky. Usually celebrities do fanmail in batches. They don't ignore
YOU, they don't know
you. Why would they?
This is defnitely for the patient people. If you're not, then yeah - you'll probably drive yourself crazy. All hobbies cost money. Just depends if you really like it enough to stick with it.

I've been doing this since 2008 and in that time I have received a total of 5 things. I haven't kept track of what i sent untill two months ago, and I realize I send way to much to only get 5.
I don't understand how me && someone else can send something around the same time and I NEVER GET MINE BACK but they do.

I'm not an expert, and my success rate isn't all that great. I'm not trying to claim that I have all of the answers.
I'm also not trying to say that you're doing anything wrong. As others have stated, patience is important in this hobby.
If you feel that there's something that you need to improve on you could try picking someone who you think is more successful and discussing how they handle things. You could look on the internet for tips on writing effective fan mail.
Maybe that would help you feel more in control.
But you can't control if you're going to get a response, especially if you're writing to celebs who are not known to answer fan mail from anybody.
That's a big obstacle I faced when I started writing fan mail. I always expected to be the exception that hard to get celebs would respond to. It didn't work out that way.
I think you're very sensitive and you're taking the Jason Aldean issue too personally.
Even if you do quit for awhile you can always pick the hobby back up again... especially if you're surprised by receiving a great success that you had already given up on.
That's what happened to me with a Willie Nelson autograph. It renewed my interest in the hobby. You see, I've gone through spirts since 2007.
You don't have to make a forever decison today. The hobby will still be there when/if you're ready to pick it up again.
If it hurts your feelings and you feel rejected about not getting a high response rate maybe you could take a little break and come back to it later.
Or you could stick it out and see what happens.
Best wishes to you either way.

I am curious to know how much do you write in your letter. What do you say? Just get right to the point and want an autograph? Make sure your letter isn't just about the autograph but recongizing why you like said person.

That is a lot to spend in two months. You might want to write a letter every once in awhile, instead of all the time, to save money. Do what is best for your budget.
