First of all, you need to write with all your heart. Your story, how Harry Potter changed your life. Just write everything but be sure what you're writing are all true.
Then just mail your letter. It takes one to three months to receive a letter from her.

You've got to do that, as well as make it unique and really stand out. I'm sure she's gotten millions of letters from fans saying that Harry Potter has changed their lives. You've got to make her understand how it's changed your life (if it has) and really make her believe it.

Yeah, I've heard of several successes -- including a handwritten letter from J.K.R. herself (I think JonAQ got that one!). Most of the successes, from what I've heard, are signed letters. She's finished with the series, so she has a lot more time to devote to looking through fanmail and such.
I wrote to her 10 years ago, and got a preprinted thank-you letter. But that was when I wasn't a good writer, and so much has happened since then. I want to write her again, and really thank her for the inspiration she's done with her work.

Nope it wasn't me that got the handwritten letter. I sure wish it was though! lol
I was one of the people that got one of the signed pictures, though.
