Guys this is serious - there's a thief working in a Los Angeles branch of the post office.
Sue from collecting-autographs-ttm@googlegroups just reported a loss just like mine. She received:
"an envelope, the flap open and the corner ripped with a postmark from Los Angeles. Nothing inside"
This is EXACTLY the way mine arrived. And there was no way my photos could have just slipped out - the only way to get them out is to tear the envelope - I know having opened my own envelopes often enough. Someone had to tear it to get them out.
If you have suffered a loss like ours - REPORT IT. Call 1-877-876-2455 and file a claim immediately. Hopefully they will take this matter seriously as a result when they see the pattern. There's a thief! A thief in the postal system. One is a tragedy - two is not a coincidence - it's an emerging pattern.
I'm not surprised she and I got hit - we send out more than most - the chances we'd lose one were pretty high. Obviously someone started to recognize our return envelopes, guessed on the value of the contents and ripped us off. I'm guessing hers came from a post office around hollywood.
Mine was sent Priority Mail - hers with stamps - so that explains the delay in receipt - chances are - they came out of the same post office, same day - same lousy thief. If anyone else has lost one and received an empty package - You NEED to file a claim and tell them everything you can about this theft. Postmark. contents. Description of the envelope's condition at the time of receipt. EVERYTHING. Two is the start of a pattern. Together we might get our stuff back.
If you have suffered a similar loss - REPORT IT.
