HI everyone,
in just 12 days i plan on getting quite a few IP successes, as i will be attending this years New York Comic-Con!. i am really looking forward to this. this will be my 1st convention that has nothing to do with work. they have a huge line up for guests. my top list include: Adam West, Burt Ward, the cast of walking dead, the cast of Robot Chicken, Bill Paxton, Christopher Lloyd,Chris Elliot, Carrie Fisher, the cast of the new Carrie Remake, Curtis Armstrong, Robert Carradine, Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Sean Astin, Tom Felton, the Beautiful People (Angelina Love & Velvet Sky), the Bella twins, Paris Themmen (Mike TV from old school Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory), Ann Rice (author), the cast of Evil Dead, and A few Comic Book Legends as well. just to name a few. i am really excited about this. i know this will cost me but it is well worth it. is anyone else planning on attending this event? and also does anyone have any insight as to what to expect? i have only been collecting for 1 year now so i am rather new so bare with me. thank for you help and maybe i will see you there. also have a great weekend everyone!
Best Wishes, Sean Sjazz

this is my personal experience based on conventions (and what i wrote out for a harry potter fan site):
when it comes to conventions depending on the size and the media guest attending expect long lines and to be bumped into a few times while walking around …
Yes you’ll have to pay for the entrance to the convention. Depending on who is hosting it sometimes they have early bird deals and after a certain day the prices will go up and so on. They could also sell packages for all the days of the convention, one day tickets. Also most conventions sell tickets at the door if you guys dont wanna buy tickets online.
Okay so autographs — when it says $50 an autograph that means they are sitting at a table signing stuff for the fans. but its $50 an item. so lets say you want them to sign a picture thats $50. and you want them to sign a diff item thats another $50 so in total you would have to give them $100.
not all celebs charge $50 an autograph. average is about $15-$30
but keep in mind some people dont charge for autographs, while some do
As for the pictures .. majority of the time the celebs have a few diff pictures to pick from on there table that you could just pick the one you like the most and they will sign it and personalize it to you or to whoever your getting the picture for.
I recently encountered a celeb that didnt include a picture in the autograph price so i had to go and find a picture of the celeb at a vendors booth and buy that.
Now for the photo ops at conventions — its a picture with them! its usually done by a ‘professional’ photography company. its a real fast thing. you go in take your picture and walk out.. literally like 10 seconds. I would try to go take my pictures at the first time they are scheduled to take pictures that way your picture will be printed and ready to pick up before you leave to go home.
another thing would be trying to take pictures with the celeb at the table while they are signing autographs. i would go and check it out first thing in the morning. some conventions strictly prohibit the celebs taken photos at the signing tables as it slows down the line so the only way to get a picture with them is during a photo op, that happen with me and Tom Felton from Harry Potter. if theres no signs around i would ask just to make sure that way you know if you could get a picture with them for free (more or less) or have to pay for the photo op. i.e: i took pictures with Natalia Tena (tonks from harry potter ) at her signing table for free instead of the photo booth. but then theres also the chance of them saying yes you can take a picture with them at their table with your own camera but charge you. I had that happen with one person that charged me $10 for the picture with them at their autograph table.

WOW! thank you very much for your input. as i said this is my 1st convention and i want it to be a great time and to grow my Autograph collection. i felt that this would be the best way to get IP's. thank you for you help, it is greatly appreciated. my biggest fear is missing someone while waiting in line for someone else. some. for example: on Saturday morning between 8am and 8:01 am they are giving out Tix for free autograph sessions with the Cast of "The Walking Dead" and the cast of "Robot Chicken". i really want to do both but i don't know how. they are given out at the same time in the same place. i don't understand how that would work. any ideas? thanks again for your help and time.have a great weekend!

Sounds like fun. The kids and I went to Anaheim comicon(which they don't do anymore) and had a lot of fun. Most of the people signing won't have big lines. Mill around until they don't have too many people in front of them to have a nice chat with them. West/Ward will have a line you'll have to find out where/when it starts. I would definately go for the Walking Dead session, but that's me. Have a blast!!

thanks,

yeah i am really looking forward to this. i feel like this is one of those things that i will want to do every year. but i will take it one day at a time. you have been to the one in Anaheim, have you been to the Mecca of COMIC-CONs at San Diego? that i heard was crazy and huge. if so what was it like? thanks again fr your input i am glad i have this forum to talk to people about this stuff cause, no on in my circle Collects like i do. and as i said i really wanted to get quite a few IP's out of this trip. and have many stories to tell upon my return. don't worry this will be the first place i tell them, and hopefully have cool things to share. have a great week, take care

We've never been to the San Diego con, can't really afford it. I don't really know why Wizard World won't have any in the LA area. We have the Hollywood Show and we're going to that this week. Be sure to post your haul when you get home!!
