I opened my binder today to find that the pen used on my most recent TTM success was rubbing off on the plastic sleeve. I used acid free plastic sleeves to store my autographs. The pen used was a silver gel pen. I ran my finger over the signature and a fine silver film came off on my finger. Right now I have the autograph sitting on my desk trying to figure out what to do. My first thought was to laminate it as it's personalized to me and I don't plan to sell it at any time, but a quick Google search put me off of that idea. Any thoughts?
The autograph in question:

It's Mayor Cory Booker of Newark. If things work out the way people have thought, he may be President in a few years, so I'd really like to preserve it.

Re: Autograph Deteriorating
That happens alot with silver only, what i do is buy a matted frame at wal mart or somewhere and i frame it and never take it out because with the matted frame the photo isnt touching the glass so it will stay good forever as long as you dont take it out lol you can buy a matted frame at wal mart for anywhere from 5 to 15 dollars depending on if you have a 4x6,5x7 or 8x10 photo. It is really your only good safe choice plus you get to enjoy it on your wall forever.

I had the same problem, so I took out everything signed in silver and sprayed them with Krylon Crystal Clear. They're fine now. I'm also switching to matte photos instead of glossy for less of a chance of them smudging in the mail. The I'll spray them when I get them.
