Hi Markd
I recommend you do not send money in the mail.
The money (or even the whole envelope with its contents) can get lost or stolen (it's been done before plenty of times).
Additionally, if the post office knows that there is money, they can refuse to post the letter to its destination and instead return it to you.
It's better if you find a way to get US stamps (I have the same problem) or use IRC's (I know they're expensive).
If you want to though, it's at your own risk and I suggest you conceal the cash well.
Do not send coins!!

Hi Markd
To put my two cents in, like nowandagain said. Do not send money because it might get lost stolen in the mail proccess.
You can order US stamps, right here!

I think sending money over the border, into another country, is illegal.
I'm not 100% sure, but that's my impression.

Well I wouldn't send money also because I dont believe that Canadian money does any good in the US.
What I do when I send a letter to another country is send a self addressed envelope and at the end of my letter I say something like "I am sorry for not enclosing stamps but I do not own any stamps for your country. I hope you understand and can still reply to my letter." Just I word it differently.
