I have written Clint Howard(got him, then resent with my photo and haven't heard back), Barbara Bain and Martin Landau and not heard back.

Interested in Ken Berry and Barbara Hale but haven't seen a success so haven't written.

I believe Bob Hastings passed away last year.

I am also waiting for Judd Hirsh-I hope he signs via Forever, but I just sent.

STRATHAIRN, DAVID has signed VV but I haven't seen anything from his agent.

This hobby involves a lot of waiting: how long has it been for those letters?

Anywhere from 3 months to 2 years. I was getting responses in the mail regularly for the past few years and then all of a sudden nothing. I have around 60 letters out there - could some nutjob at the Post Office be stealing or throwing out my do not bend envelopes? Could they be holding my envelopes if I was using non-cancelled $1 stamps occasionally? Do they have a way of telling if stamps are being reused?

Obviously it's illegal to throw away or not deliver mail. If postage is due they should send you a postcards saying come pay for it. Could be just lost in the mail or you might have hit a dry patch. Some people only respond to the best letters and not to all their fans.

Did you send photos to them all with your stamped envelope for a reply? A lot of older stars might not have photos at home and need you to send one.

You might try distracting yourself with research to write other stars. It's possible that some addresses you tried weren't good so you might want to look up and see if there are it her addresses to try.

Thanks for the reply - I send out two photos with cardboard and SASE stamped DO NOT BEND on all four corners on both sides and then put that in a larger envelopeand mail to stars address in database. I've gotten over 100 responses that way including Sophia Loren, Gene Wilder, Hal Linden, etc. I just remembered that someone told me to mail an SASE to myself and see where it ends up. That might help.

Yes, it is illegal to reuse non-cancelled stamps if they been used before. If you pay $0.49 on your letter, the $0.49 stamp covers delivery for this envelope only. If you reuse the stamps, you pay once for two deliveries. It is kinda try to take the bus with an expired transfer. On the other hand, when you mechanically process thousands of letters per hour, you don't really have the time to check all the stamps and there's not really a way to detect more of the bad ones.

About the mail drought, it can be hold or stolen, but IHMO, your problem is probably more a stat question. Let's say you mail 60 letters on the same day or the same week and most celebs take between one and six months to reply. Most of your replies will arrive between one and six months after the date the letters were mailed on. After that, replies will normally dry up and be more random. Don't forget that some celebs won't answer at all too, even if they do not return your letter. If you continue to receive your bills and your usual mail in your mailbox, that's because things work ok.

Thanks for the response. I did mail an envelope to myself and received it in two days. It's just weird that I would receive at least one reply a week steadily and then all of a sudden nothing for a full year!
