Mandatory donation

Unread post by nomoredramamama75 »

I really would like Jane Seymour's autograph...
or at least I did until I read that there's a mandatory $10 a piece donation,
allegedly for a charity.
Her website reads that letters without the donation will be discarded; to me that seems somewhat snotty, even rude.
I could see her not sending an autographed pic, but to not even apprieciate a sincere fan letter?
Or did the whole you've got to thing just rub my fur backwards?

I'm a newbie to autograph collecting. Just started on April Fool's Day.
My question is this: how common of a request is that? Mandatory donation.

For what it's worth, if I had extra money at this time I'd donate it
to St. Judes, not some charity I've never heard of.

I personally agree with you. Especially if you yourself are collecting for charity, it is a little rude to ask for money. I don't think that it is common to find celebrities that ask for money to even read the letter. At least, I haven't come across any others :)

It doesn't really bother me, I hate the ones that just charge you for it, but if its for a charity I'm okay with it. And I'll bet she gets a lot of fanmail and some are sincere and some are just wanting autographs to add to their collection. I doubt a lot of celebs even really read the letters they have someone else do it.

THe point I'd like to make, is that if a person really wants an auto from someone charging $10 for a charity donation, then the ture fan wouldn't hesitate to pay it.

I totally agree with rpbluesman on that one.
But it is kind of rude to charge money.
But then again it goes for charity.

I wouldn't really say it's rude. They just want to give a charity funds, and reward the people that donate with an autograph.

IF you're a true collector, and not looking to make money on autographs, then a fee here and there wouldn't be a problem

ThanX for your input. As I've written, I'm very new to the hobby of autograph collecting. So the question was sincere. I hope I didn't offend anyone.

As for being a true Jane Seymour fan, I'm sure there are those who are more enchanted {love} with her than I am. Must be, it's a big (beautiful) world. Yet I do consider myself a fan of hers--at least as far as I typically go with being impressed by celebrities. Ms. Seymour is a multi-talented, beautiful lady... and I apprieciate that.

I think the main reason I was a little taken aback by the concept of manditory donation is that I'm irked at myself for not having an extra $1o for a non-essential product/ service.

i don't think rpbluesman meant you in particular
and jane often replys even if you don't make a donation
i myself will gladly pay 10s for a signed pic
sometimes you end up spending more on some people without ever
getting anything back
just what i think
you don't have to agree

Thank you, damien, for your objective perspective.
I'm relieved to read from you!
Hopefully I did read into it wrong, and took a personal slight where none was intended.
Either way, the edit to my previous post was rash & I regret posting it.
