Secretarials

I have noticed that people make a big deal about secretarials. I think it's rude when someone is excited about an autograph they recieved and then someone else tells them it is deffinatly a secretarial. I think that there is no way to tell if is is a real or secretarial. Everybody signs their name differently. The only people that truly know are the celebirty and/or the secretary. So just let people be happy with their autographs and don't ruin it for them by making them think it is not real. Anyway, thanks for reading my rant. Happy Collecting!

I'm inclined to agree...I think some folks just like to rain on parades. And unless you're there you don't really know WHO signed the picture, do ya... ;-)

I just made a comment in another thread where someone said straight away that a Ewan McGregor sig was a secretarial, and yet it matches almost perfectly an IP one I got from him in NY a few years ago.

Bottom line: there are no experts and you never know. So let somebody be happy and just be supportive. It's more fun that way.

yes, I know. Somebody always is so excited to recieve an auto from their favorite celebrity and the someone has to go off saying, that is totally a secretary or an autopen or a PP. Zenbird you have proved my point. thank you! Nobody was at the signing so you can't be sure.

i myself ask, cause i WANT to know if what i got is authentic or not
thats why some threads are being started for people who want
other peoples opinions
so there will not be no need to discuss it in someones success thread

If a member is proclaiming a PP/autopen to be authentic, then they should be corrected, as other collectors may then write off expecting an "authentic", only to receive the PP/autopen. PPs and autopens can be 110% proven without a shadow of a doubt, there is no room for argument about authenticity with these.

As for secretarials, theres is room for debate, and yes they are effectively "opinions" as no one saw them being signed, but they are eductated opinions, and should still be respected. There is a lot of evidence towards ceretain stars sending secretarials, but it is upto the individual collector to make their own decisions about them.

This forum promotes "Dont give opinions on authenticity unless someone asks" and this is followed 99% of the time, so to be honest, there is no reason for this thread.

At the same time, a lot of people on here seem to ask for an opinion, then bite your head off if you suggest its not authentic, which begs the question - "Why ask?".

The bottom line is to most collectors, "Autograph collecting" is just that - the collection of autographs. Secs/pps/autopens are not autographs.

Thats my opinion anyway.

I completly respect your opinion an I think in a lot of cases the person is really clueless to even thinking an autopen or a really good pre-print is authentic and I think they should be corrected. That being said I started this disscusion because I really needed to vent and that is what was on my mind. I thank everyone for their comments. Happy collecting!

In my opinion PPs and APs still are autographs... but they are just not real, they are just a copy.

Other than that, I agree with Andy.

i agree with andy if i had mistaken a autopenned autograph to be authentic i would rather be told that it was a autopen instead of getting all excited about getting .......... autograph, the same with secretarials.(by the way i would be able to tell if it is a autopen or not lol)
