Are You Spending Too Much on Fanmail?

My mom thinks I am spending too much of my money on fanmail when I usually only get 50% of it back. I don't have a job so I don't make a lot of money like some adults do. I won't say anything about me, but I am not an adult. My mom won't use her money on my fanmail obsession. Is there anyway to lower the cost of what I send?

I send:
A letter
usually a small envelope with SAE inside
an occasional magazine picture

I want to increase my chances but not spend a lot. Stamps are so expensve now. I know this is not an easy to answer question since what I send is already reduced. My main question is: who else has this issue?

Well what you already send is cheaper than sending a large envelope with a glossy picture and a SASE. What I usually do is this:
I send a letter in a small envelope sometimes with a picture (even if it's just a magazine picture) then I send 2-3 stamps along with my request and a small SAE. More often than not they send my SAE back and use their own envelope, sign my picture and a picture of their own and they usually send my stamps back too. I send the stamps separately so that they are there if the celeb wants to use them, but if they don't then I didn't waste them.
I also buy 100 stamps at a time on a roll, it costs about 41.00 so that's not cheap but it saves money to buy them all at one time.

You're probably only getting 50% of your stuff back as you're not sending SASEs with your requests from what you've said. Sending SAEs will mostly result in no reply.

Ok this doesnt reduce the cost, but it will increase your success rate.

As for saving money, buy cheaper envelopes, cheaper everything. This isfar from an expensive hobby IMO.

I have never sent a SASE, SAE, or anything but a letter. And I get about 85% back. But my advantage is, that I always put a stamp that has Finland's flag. Seems to work ;-) .

it can be an expensive hobby, but if you spread it out it's not bad at all. I agree with sending SASEs because success rate goes down dramatically if you don't send them. as for saving some money. Try getting some paper and envelopes from school or having a parent grab some from work for you. That's how I got all of my stuff when I was in High School. Can't really help you out with postage...that's a problem for us all I'm afraid lol

I have that problem too.

If you ask the celebrity nicely to get two autographs as you cannot afford to continue collecting if you get however much you get, so could they send you two and then you sell it for $5 on E-bay, give $2.50 to a charity pot and then $2.50 is enough to get a pack of stamps in the UK, if you include 33p

yeah I spend too much time on fan mail and money on postage and envelopes. My mom thinks I'm crazy and my dad would not get stamps for me unless I pay them myself now. Both my parents think I went crazy or something or star-struck LOLS I don't have a job either and I'm trying to get a part time job.

What stamps do you use? First class or cheaper?
