DVD Question

Unread post by PadacklesRawrr »

Ok sorry I've been posting so much today but I would like to send a DVD sleeve off to someone.

I was wondering who has a great rate of signing DVD sleeves or returning them at least. I'm only plannign on sending to celebs I like, I was just curious.

Well I'm always a bit apprehensive when sending a DVD sleeve for fear of not getting it returned. It really depends on who you send to, some people don't sign TTM at all, so you wouldn't get it signed by them. Like me, it took me forever to send my DVD sleeve from Imagine Me & You to Piper Perabo to get signed. But I did it, it took like 2-3 months or something to get back but she did sign it. I wasn't worried because she is a really good signer. What you should do is check feedback for the people you want to send to and see if there are any successes form them, then if you still want to you could send them your sleeve to be signed.

Hi PadacklesRawrr {up}

Good question! (Also welcome to the forum {clap} )

hilarynegus gave some great advice, but what I have done in the past is to send out a colour laserprinted/inkjet printed scan of the cover first, then if it doesn't come back you haven't lost much - only the cost of the toner/ink and paper. On the other hand, if it does come back you have a better than average chance of getting the original signed if you then send that off. Whatever happens, you will either be able to hold onto your original cover, or have a signed copy one - either way you win :D

You don't need to worry about breaching copyright on duplicating the cover as you already own the original DVD, and you are copying the cover for your own use. Of course if you plan to sell it then that is a very different matter . . . .

Just my thoughts, but it has served me well ;-)

Absolutely right there. Robin Williams, does not sign TTM,(his sec does) but as far as I know does IP.

If you, are unsure, and would like to know if a celeb really signs, then try the isitreal website.

Thay have, a great list of who does PP AP or sec. So before writing to the celeb, find out that your getting some real ink {thumb2} {thumb2} or send it if they are playing at a theatre.

As Hilarynegus and The Collector have clearly pointed out, sending a DVD Cover has a chance of not getting it back. Apart from the suggestions above, another idea I have is that you can buy another copy of the movie for less, a used copy, and you can send that off to get it signed. You only pay $5 or so for the disc, and you can probably sell the DVD off if you never get the cover back. May work in some situations, not so well in others, like newer movies.

I do it a lot... its a cheap alternative to printing out pictures and sending them, and it proves you're actually a fan, as you own something of theirs. I find the success rate is about the same. i mostly send the insert with like the scene selection list out, though. I mean, does it really make a difference and is it THAT important to you to be watching a dvd and want to know what the name of said scene is? they all have them at the beginning anyways, if you want to restart or skip to a certain scene, you can just look there. that way you have your cover still, and aren't really out anything if they keep your insert. whether you send a picture, or dvd sleeve or action figure or baseball or anything pretty much has the same success rate if you send it, as long as you pay for return postage. they aren't going to read your letter and go.. "oh, so and so sent me the cover from this dvd i'm in, i'm not going to sign it, but if it was a picture, i would" the only risk you run of this, is like for instance i sent to josh hutcherson the cover from RV and he sent just a signed picture back, like in a case where he signed 500 pictures or something ahead of time and the secretary just reads your letter and inserts a picture in there. even if you get a PP back they usually send your dvd thing back unsigned, but if they do keep it, no worries, right?
