what is c/o and is it required when sending mail?

"c/o" stands for "Care Of". You don't have to put it unless it's in the address that you are using.

Yes, usually. Example -

Celeb's name
c/o The name of the play/film
rest of address

For that I would put:

*name*
c/o centurytelcenter
rest of addy
