Writing Fanmail Tips?

Hey. I've been thinking of writing to a celeb, but I'm not sure how to do it.

I've read posts on other parts of the forum that explain how you have to make it sound like a form letter. Does that mean it has to sound extremely formal?

When I write, I make it sound like I'm writing to a friend. I always make sure I refer to two projects that the celeb has been involved with.

I only write to celebs who I love or have done something that has meant a lot to me, so I find it a lot easier to write to them.

Once you have written a few letters, you'll find your own writing flair

it seems more comfortable if i can just express myself freely instead of following a specific criteria.

btw, does it make a difference if the celeb reads letters that are more formal or do they just give you an autograph and what you want regardless of how good your letter was?

I think you might have mis-read or misunderstood what was being said The idea is to try NOT to make it look like a form letter

By form letter we mean a "standard letter" for example on a computer - where you send the same letter out to lots of celebs. You have to try to make it look like you haven't just sent out a standard letter, but have spent a bit of time on it

Because I collect for charity and have to send out dozens of letters I have no choice but to use a standard form letter (I wouldn't have the time otnerwise ), but I do try to handwrite a personal note on each one as well

I have put together a list of useful tips for writing a good fanmail letter. I hope these will help you Good Luck

1.) Introduce yourself


2.) Make sure to tell the person or music group how much their work is appreciated.

3.) HELPFUL SUGGESTION: After you write YOURS TRULY and YOUR NAME, you could put your address. That way, the people will know where to send the autograph to.

4.) Make sure that your letter sounds different from other letters.

When you write to a celebrity, it's up to you on how exactly you want to structure your letter. With any letter you send out, make sure it sounds original and different from other letters that you think the celebrity may receive.

Your best bet is to introduce yourself, and then move onto what you like about their work (e.g. you saw one of their movies and would like to say how much you enjoyed it.) Don't go on and on - celebrities don't have a lot of time to read your letter, let alone anyone elses.

At the end of your letter, don't forget to thank the celebrity for taking the time to read your letter, and wish them all the best in the future.

It's advisable to keep your letter to no more than 1 page for time reasons. Also, if you want an autograph, or something you sent to be signed, don't hesitate to mention it somewhere in your letter. Just remember that if you want something back, include a self addressed, stamped envelope (SASE.)

I did mention it my previous post, but I think you may have missed it.

A letter up to one (1) page is what I recommend as your maximum length of your letter.

Anything longer, and the celebrity won't have time to read everything, as he or she will possibly have hundreds or thousands of other letters as well.
