Wow, you must live in a weird place if you only need your current address to file a change of address. Doesn't that mean anybody could take anybody else's address - like I could get Robert De Niro's fan mail, for example? Here in Australia you need photo and address ID, and it's the same in the US.
Still, if someone does get all your mail to them, they might get some of your personal information but it's still a far cry to stealing your identity, not to mention that identity thieves don't usually give out their own address - they woul dhave to have somewhere to forward the mail onto, which means that would be in the psot office's records and they would be caught pretty quick.
As for young people, if their parents haven't given them sufficient warning about not giving out their address online, then that's their lookout.
I guess this person has never heard of actual identity theft
