Comic Con New York 2012

Unread post by Sean SJazz »

HI everyone,
i am new to autograph collecting. i have been doing this now for almost 1 year, and i have had some in my opinion great successes. i have all my successes by TTM. after talking to some of my close friends about my new hobby, i felt that Comic Con was a great way to get some IP successes. now i have never been to anything like this before. it sounds like a lot of fun anyway. but i was wondering if anyone else has had great success by this type of thing before. and if someone who has had success & what can i expect as far as getting celebs to sign autographs? can i bring my own pics to have them sign or do they use their own? sorry for asking so many questions but as i have said i am new to this whole world, and i feel that this would be a great way to build my collection. so if anyone knows anything about this stuff please let me know. thanks for your time,
Best Wishes Sean Sjazz

Hi! I've only been to one convention myself. I loved it. I met great people and actors/actresses. You can bring your own items to be signed but most will have pictures they have provided in case you don't have one, but they will sign either. I loved going to my first convention because you get to see the celebs do their thing and chat with them. But it is great fun. Standing in line for 2 hours isn't that bad either 'cause you get to talk to fellow fans about basically anything!

ive been to a few cons myself.. love them! i wrote this up for another post on here about conventions (from my experiences) that im just gonna share with you {up}

i mostly go for HarryPotter actors or hunger games actors but theres also more people that ive met at conventions that i like.

FL Supercon 2008 - Devon Murray, Natalia Tena, Danielle Tabor, Hugh Mitchell which are all in Harry Potter ..

FL Supercon 2009 - Stephanie Lyn Beard aka SuhaBaybee - who is a voice actress for Sailor Mini Moon and Wish Bear
Bill Rogers who is a Pokemon voice actor for Brock
Michelle Knotz who is the voice of May in Pokemon

MegaCon 2012 in Orlando - Tom Felton from Harry Potter
Stan Lee
Charisma Carpenter

FL Supercon 2012 - Dakota Hood, Sam Tan, Tara Macken, Mackenzie Lintz, Annie Thurman, Ethan Jamieson from the Hunger Games
Alex Kingston from Dr Who

and if car shows count as conventions too.. then

DUB Car Show 2011
Amber Rose
Travie McCoy
Jeremih

of course theres always tones of celebs there but these are the ones ive meet/took pics with/got autographs from

-----

theres a few conventions i already have planned on attending that im just waiting to see what guest they announce to see if i go forsure or not

march 15-17, 2013 - Megacon in Orlando
July 4-7, 2013 - FL Supercon

-----

when it comes to conventions depending on the size and the media guest attending expect long lines and to be bumped into a few times while walking around ...

Okay so autographs — when it says $50 an autograph that means they are sitting at a table signing stuff for the fans. but its $50 an item. so lets say you want them to sign a picture thats $50. and you want them to sign a diff item thats another $50 so in total you would have to give them $100.

not all celebs charge $50 an autograph, most of them are in the $10-30ish range. ..

but keep in mind some people dont charge for autographs, while some do

As for the pictures .. majority of the time the celebs have a few diff pictures to pick from on there table that you could just pick the one you like the most and they will sign it and personalize it to you or to whoever your getting the picture for.

ive recently encountered a celeb that didnt include a picture in the autograph price so i had to go and find a picture of the celeb at a vendors booth and buy that.

Now for the photo ops at conventions — its a picture with them! its usually done by a ‘professional’ photography company.

its a real fast thing. you go in take your picture and walk out.. literally like 10 seconds. I would try to go take my pictures at the first time they are scheduled to take pictures that way your picture will be printed and ready to pick up before you leave to go home.

another thing would be trying to take pictures with the celeb at the table while they are signing autographs. i would go and check it out first thing in the morning. some conventions strictly prohibit the celebs taken photos at the signing tables as it slows down the line so the only way to get a picture with them is during a photo op, that happen with me and Tom Felton from Harry Potter. if theres no signs around i would ask just to make sure that way you know if you could get a picture with them for free (more or less) or have to pay for the photo op. i.e: i took pictures with Natalia Tena (tonks from harry potter ) at her signing table for free instead of the photo booth.

but then theres also the chance of them saying yes you can take a picture with them at their table with your own camera but charge you. I had that happen with one person that charged me $10 for the picture with them at their autograph table.

thank you for your help. i am rather new to collecting and at first i did not tell my otehr friends and Family about this hobby mainly because most of them are negitive about such things. but over the last year i am become more and more proud of my success. so now i dont care who knows or does not. now in the past i met Lou Ferrigno at a thing in thsi area called Spooky world. it is only an october thing, and 99% of thed time i have gone Lou was the guest so it would be really funny if he remember me lol. so far the only success i have had has come from TTM but when i heard about comic con New york and i did some reserch i found that it wasnt just comic books(eventhough i love those too) so thought it would be a great way for me to get my collection to grow and ahve some IP. thanks for the heads up on the prices. i have tried to find that info on the site but they do not have anything about it. other then who will be there. i will keep you all posted and hopfully have some great Graphs & Stories. i am really glad i am part of this forum. it is really cool how people like you guys who knows this stuff can help a beginer like me. thank you all for your help and friendships.

For me, I've only been to one.

I went to Calgary Expo where I met a couple of people:

James and Oliver Phelps- $60 autograph, $50 photo op
Tara Strong- Free
Jim Cummings- Free

I can't remember the rest. But I know for Calgary Expo only the media guests had an auto fee which was around the $30-$60 mark. It's a lot but worth it. The cast signings were about $300 CAD. So it would really depend on what you want :)

Here in Canada the only convention I can go to is the Calgary one, and since I'm only 15 I can't travel alone nor do my parents have the money to send me to the other conventions to meet people :)
