Is it okay to send US money to celebrities in UK?

Unread post by SWfan27 »

Hi! I want to increase my international success rate(I send to celebrities in the UK). I was wondering, could I send the celebrity US dollars and a SAE? I want to send to some celebrities in UK who only respond if you include money for postage. Even though the currency is different, does sending US dollars still work?
Thanks so much for your help! :D

I would assume you would send IRC's (International Reply Coupons) with your letter as these are what I use when I send to celebrities in the US and I'm in the UK.

Whoever you write to would then use them to get the postage to send back to you.

Hi, I send US dollars to celebs who live outside the US and so far there hasn't been a problem. I usually send between 2 and 4 dollars because I can't get IRCs.
Successes: Nadine Crocker, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Scarlett Johannson, Tom Welling, Stephen Amell, Wallis Day, Katie Cassidy, Misha Collins, Gal Gadot over 100 autographed comic books

Buy stamps from someone in here? Or online. It costs £1.90 MAX for a flat rate 230mm x 160mm envelope weighing no more than 100g and 5-10mm thick. But as the other guy said IRC are widely available there in the US, I can't find them here in the UK

I've worked with a lot of UK actors, (mostly Star Wars) and we have spoken about TTM. Most have received IRC and had no idea what to do with them. Also a lot said they had a lot of US $ building up but said it was a pain as they can only exchange them once the money had built up as if you exchange only a few $ the bank etc take their %. So in the mean time they have to pay for postage themselves and most tended to get 2 or 3 requests a week.
I would suggest swapping stamps on here. There are several people that offer the service but if your stuck for stamps PM me.

Good luck

Is anyone in the UK needs IRCS then you can get them from main post offices - that's where I get mine from. I have been told when I've got them that they don't sell many - but that means more for me!

I live in the UK, when writing to the US without US postage I send a few dollars by exchanging at the beurea de change, and this often works, i suggest you do the same but the reverse! I used to be able to et IRC's quite easily, now I cant get them ANYWHERE!!!

I live in Tampa, FL, and was told by the postmaster general that no post office in the county carries IRCs any longer.

This used to be the case, but as of December 2011 Royal Mail officially withdrew them.

See here

Once a PO's leftover stock goes, they will be no more.

*please note sending an IRC to the UK is still fine!

To the OP, I suppose US$ would be ok, but UK stamps would be even better.
