how many people know about your collection

Unread post by Sean SJazz »

HI everyone,
i just had a strage question. i am rather new to Autograaph collecting,i have only been doing it since Septmber of last year(2011). to this day i only tell select few about this hobby. here is why: i was a Indie Pro Wrestler(Jazz Fitness) and while going through Wrestling school, we are taught not to "MARK OUT" over Legends and other wrestlers, which means NOT freak out and become Overly Excited over the star. i have meet many Great wrestling legends, but i never asked them for thier autographs because that is frowned upon. basicly it is because in our Pro Wrestling world, we are the same, and have a brotherhood. Now that i do NOT wrestle anymore, i needed a new hobby. so i liked to write, and i enjoy getting good things in the mailbox (as silly as that sounds) so i thought of this. and to be honest i thought i was the only one with this idea lol rather silly of me. then i found this website and joined this Forum.i have learned so much for all of your guys. and i dont feel as alone. but i still feel a little not embarresed but, my family is not so keen on creative anything. so they would really give me a hard time. so my question is: do you guys tell everyone you know about this Hobby or do you keep it quite? if so who do you tell, and whyor why not? i am new as i have said to this hobby and i just would feel better if i knew should i broadcast this to everyone or not? thank you for your time and i am sorry about this long post. and my spell check nis down so sorry for that too. i look forward to hearing from you all soon. thanks again, take care.
Best Wishes Sean Sjazz

Everyone I know pretty much knows. A lot of my friends and family think it's really cool I collect and sometimes my husband likes to give me a hard time about it. He is just joking around with me but sometimes I let it get to me. He recently found a letter I wrote to Paul Rudd and made fun of it. Oh well....
Favorite autographs: One Direction <3, Paul Rudd (VV), Jake M Johnson (via private address), Katie Leclerc x2 (in person & ttm)

My wife knows, but that's about it. I collected a little as a kid and just recently got back into it (to decorate the walls of my basement). It's a harmless, fun hobby but some people get down-right creepy about it. It makes it exciting to get the mail everyday and gives me some cool conversation pieces in my basement.

Tom Izzo, Lauren Bacall, Chevy Chase, Clint Eastwood, Drew & Mike, Laurie Berkner, Jay Leno, Jennifer Aniston, Neil Patrick Harris, Bryan Cranston, Wayne Newton, Arnold Palmer, Oscar Goodman, Jeff Lewis, Kirk Cousins, Doyle Brunson, Joe Dumars, Tom Clancy. Ben Bailey, Fresh Beat Band. Jon Voight, Tom Selleck, Jason Alexander, Jake Boss Jr., Arian Foster, Pat Sajak & Vanna White

It's not a secret that I get some of my playbills this way, and I always use the excuse that I didn't stage door. But writing to people like Alan Rickman and David Tennant, that only my parents and sister know because they live with me otherwise I keep my mouth shut about it. I don't know I feel weird and nerdy talking about it with my friends (they're not very understanding about this sort of thing). I really only tell them about IPs and they kinda get that because theres a tv show that films 3 blocks from me all the time, and they know I love that show to bits so they don't pick on it too much. But to make a long answer short 3.

My parents think I'm a crazy person doing this and I remind them of my past hobbies which have cost a bit more money and they back down

Why would you be embarassed about collecting autographs? Are you that insecure with your self? Have that bad self esteem?

It's not like your collecting is harming anyone. It's not like you collect aborted baby fetuses or collecting stray cats that you torture sexually.

If the people/"friends" cant except the fact you collect autographs... you need to hang out with different people!

A good amount of people know that I "meet celebrities", very few people know the means of how I go out and obtain pics with them and the autographs by specific methods. Only my closest friends and those who have visited when the room isn't a complete cluster you know what have seen my collection up close and I speak to them sometimes about "How cool it was meeting Jonathan Toews, or "Did Butkus look like he was gonna kick your a**?" a lot more than the autographed items. I don't like to brag about every item I have signed or the value of my collection. I like to talk about the experience in meeting the athlete and how they were up close more so the $$$ value in my collection.
