I wrote a fan letter and sent a 1966 Baltimore Orioles scorebook along with a blue sharpie and a SASE to former Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Wally Bunker on 10/1/12. I got a response back from him on 10/12/12 and he was enough to sign the scorebook for me.
I was on the same high school varsity baseball team as Wally, and I have been following his remarkable success in his baseball career and children's book writing (he and his wife's book became one of my young grandchildren's favorites). I was wondering what Wally's obp was his rookie year, I heard it was the same as Sandy Koufax's that year? By the way, let Wally know on 3/28/25 his high school, Capuchino in San Bruno, CA, is having its annual baseball varsity vs alumni varsity game on the newly renovated ballpark that resembles a major league stadium now. Several of Wally's teammates from our 1962 and '63 team will be there and ready to play (we're all in our late 70's and I'm 80, and it's a full on fast pitch, well-played hardball game).
