How do you make sure an autograph is authentic?

Hello All,

I am completely new at this,and I have not sent any autograph requests yet. I was wondering how I could get autographs from the actual celebrities. I don't want one that is preprinted, or autoprinted, or made by an assistant. Does that mean I should only use via venue addresses, and not send to agencies or fanmail addresses? Is there any way to make sure that what I get back is really signed by the celebrity? Could I send a marker or pen that I want them to sign with that is not black so I know that the really signed it, and it's not autosigned on whatever I sent them. Also, what are the chances that they would write back if I asked them a question in the letter, or to tell me if it's really them signing? For example, if I wrote the following in the letter..." Please sign the enclosed picture and card, and address to (my name)." How would I know if it's really them that signs and not an assistant? Could I also say..."Please let me know if it's really you, or if this is autosigned, or a preprint." That seems weird but I really don't know. If I relly said something sincere, would they write a response or answer if I included a piece of paper?

simple answer is do your research on the celeb ur sending too..

that way you know who sends what.. and i wouldnt send a marker with every request. unless ur rich then by all means go for it.. sending pictures for them and buying envelops/stamps is expensive enough as is..

Do reaserch into the celeb

Some dont sign certain pics like Alan Rickman who doesnt sign pictures of himself in charactor.
Tara Reid charges for pictures but doesnt for Index cards
Jessie J sends out a Pre signed photo
Dame Maggie smith only signs one person
Lots of UK soaps stars, Disney Chanel stars has there own Cast Pictures which are pre signed.

There are plenty of people I would like autographs from. One is Martin Sheen. According to the feedback on this site, he answers with authentic autographs quickly. I really liked him in Gettysburg. Could I just send him some pictures of his character from the movie and a letter? Do you think he would write a letter or note back if I asked him some questions? How else could I find celebs who are really good about responding in person?
