Well, I promised updates when I knew them and today I had my very first appointment. Here is a re-cap of what happened and how everything went:
The great news is that we have a perfectly healthy little one going on in there!!! The other good news is that contrary to what my son may suggest, there is thankfully only one baby

.
My appointment started with the midwife confirming the pregnancy with a simple test and from there I was weighed and my blood pressure checked...and everything was great in those areas. Then she took us all back to a private room in order to check for the baby's heartbeat and pretty well right off of the bat she found what she said was the placenta pulsing away at about 150 b.p.m. Then she proceeded to find my heartbeat many times. She explained that since the heart pulses with the placenta, the baby was definitely doing just great

. Then she proceeded to do a "freebie" ultrasound just for my well-being so that I would know the baby was doing great. (Actually I didn't even ask for this...she just offered!) So we now have 4 pictures of our little 13 week old fetus!!! Probably the worst part was the blood tests. Basically they tried to poke me in my right elbow, which didn't work. Then I suddenly remembered that last time they had used a baby stick to hit the back of my hand. Well, the nurse did the back of my right hand and she completely missed the vein. After much pain and much wiggling of the needle, she got the midwife (thank god!!!) and had her do my left hand. So now I have some not so pretty marks on my arms/hands. Very disappointing and I told my husband later that it hurt almost to the point of me crying. Right now all three are in the process of becoming very large bruises. I'm hoping they'll do a better job next time!
Well, that was the big news. And no, they couldn't see the gender....but I think I may have

. And no, I'm not telling

. They routinely do ultrasounds at 20 and 30 weeks, so it'll be another 7 weeks before we know and I can't wait

. It was just a complete relief to see the baby moving everywhere in there and to see and hear his/her heart beating away!!!!
P.S. I'll try to add pictures from the ultrasound as soon as I can get around to it ;).
