Hi MarkD

I am currently doing an auction.

Couple of Questions first. If you don't mind me asking.

Is your Society an actual registered charity?
Do you have letterheaded paper?
Are you a the head of the Society?

The way i have done it.
Is to approach the charity first. Dicussed things with them as i am basically using the charities name.

Then I obtained a letter of introduction/intent. This was copied and sent out with my request letter.

The request letter contained. Details of the event. Details of the Charity

Send this out with a copy of the letter of intent.

Be clear that you are asking for a donation of a signed photo or any other item and not a financial donation.

Also approach local companies for sponsorship as it can be very expensive buying envelopes, stamps and other bits.

But good luck. Don't hesitate to ask if you hae anymore questions.

matt
getting the balance right.
