Ah, I'm really confused!

I'm going to be writing Jodelle Ferland & Dakota Fanning a letter. I'm also going to request an autograph.

What exactly do I need to send?

Hi Heather.

Welcome to the forum!

In order to send a request to someone (in your instance Jodelle Ferland & Dakota Fanning), you will need the following:

1. A letter to whomever you're writing to. I would recommend starting off with an introduction about yourself, then tell them what you like about their work, kindly ask for an autographed photo and wish them all the best in the future (this is up to you how you want to structure your letter)

2. An envelope addressed to the celebrity which will enclose your letter and self addressed stamped envelope (SASE) or self addressed envelope (SAE) and international reply coupons (IRC) - see point 3. Don't forget to stick enough stamps on the envelope!

3. A SASE or SAE and IRC's. You include this with your letter so that whomever you're writing to can send something back to you (e.g. autographed photo). If you're writing to a celebrity within your country, just send an envelope addressed to you and stick enough stamps so it can be sent back. If you're sending a request to someone outside the country, do send the self addressed envelope but instead of sticking stamps on the envelope include some IRC's with your request (they are bought at a post office). The IRC will be exchanged by the person you send the request to for stamps so the SAE can be sent to you. More information about IRC's can be found here.

4. Photos or other memorabilia to be signed (optional). Just remember to only send what you can afford to lose.

From this, put the letter, SASE or SAE & IRC's and photos/memorabilia (if applicable) into the envelope addressed to the celebrity and post away!

Now all you have to do is wait (which is the hardest part) until something arrives for you in the post.

Good luck!

Awesome, thanks for the response. How many stamps would be a good amount?

Hi Heather.

I'm assuming you're not from Australia (and therefore I am not 100% clear on postal prices wherever you are from).

There is some information in this thread here, but you should check out your country's postal service website for more information.

Another thing I do is look into if the person requires a SASE. If they are younger I do send one but you know they always pay for postage themselves then I leave one out. Because I am a student and dont have much money I find this way to be a little cheaper in the long run.
