Who knows why some people do certain things? With Betty or whoever handles her fan mail and organizes it for her to sign, they probably made an honest mistake.
I've had pics of me with a celebrity, from a convention, that I sent and it was kept. I'm guessing in that case, a pic with a fan meant something for them to keep.
In sending for free autographs, meaning unsolicited, you are bound to have aggravations.
Betty has been kind enough to sign for years and I've noticed since her superbowl commercial we have seen many more successes from her, meaning many more people are writing. Yet she continues to try and make her fans happy. In the past she used to write lengthy inscriptions but now it's usually just a simple "To" personalization. Anything is nice but I see this as her getting so overwhelmed by the amount of signatures she does that she has to limit herself.
More often fans are turned off by nasty celebrities but it's also fans who are turning off celebrities. It does not help collectors to be negative, especially when receiving a success at all. Now, I'm sure no one associated with Betty will ever see this website but it's the principal. I get disappointment. As a kid, there's very little more disappointing than hoping for a toy on your birthday or Christmas, only to get the usual JC Penney/Sears/Macy's sweater.
But what happens, is you grow up! You realize life is not about getting everything you want or even need. It's about doing the very best to make every situation work out and if it doesn't, no sweat, you get back up (no complaints) and try again. If the special photos mean that much then you'll just have to get more copies and send them off (with your kind letter, of course!) and hope it works out better this time.

Aren't two basic rules of this to 1) never send anything you will be sad to lose, and 2) be glad for anything you get back, since they are doing you a favor sending anything your way?
