Re: Hedwig & the angry inch failure
Hm maybe you did something wrong? I had a lot successes from new york specially broadway last year (i live in germany). And also from "big" celebrities. I would never give up when sending to a stage. Some celebs sign their stuff years after the performance.
Best (authentic) ttm: Milo Ventimiglia, Tom Felton, Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Zach Braff, Russel Crowe, Rupert Grint, Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Bradley Cooper, Geoffrey Rush, Melissa McCarthy, Jake Gyllenhaal, Kevin James, Cam Gigandet, Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Jeremy Renner, Daniel Craig, Patrick Stewart & Ian McKellen, Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Laurie, Hugo Weaving, Cobie Smulders, Elle Fanning, Colin Firth, Neil Patrick Harris, Sara Ramirez, Matthew Fox, Kellan Lutz, Justin Long
most wanted: Brittany Snow!!, Adam Brody, James Franco, Zac Efron, Anne Hathaway, Jared Padalecki, Avengers Cast, Christoph Waltz, Jake Abel, Jim Parsons

I've sent several times to Broadway shows in NY in the past. I do everything right -- SASE, item to sign, proper address -- but save for Vanessa Williams in "Trip to Bountiful", I have not received anything else back.

I didn't send to Craig & Weisz... and I should have. (I was worried that by the time I sent, they'd be spammed and wouldn't reply anymore.) I haven't sent to Ian McKellan, but he's good either sending via agency or VV... I'm not too worried about him.
As for Broadway/theater stuff, I sent out a request for a Playbill for Hamlet (with Ethan Hawke), didn't get anything back. Ditto for the Glass Menagerie with Zach Quinto, and the other play with ScarJo last year. For me, it's not just Broadway/theater addresses in NY, but locations in that state in general. And I live in the U.S.!

Yeah thats true. Production offices are not good in there. Just had an rts of kenau reeves via john wick but some of my fave successes were via broadway. But i have to confess that i never requested a playbill and just got the celebs individually.

It also depends on if the Venue passes in fanmail on if their managers actually give it to them. I bet more would sign if they actually GOT the letters. I wrote to paul walker VV 5 times before getting a response.mcjw2011 wrote:
It goes both ways. Even when you send to the unpublished ones or the posted ones super early, some actors never reply. It goes with the territory... super popular actors and celebs get deluged with fanmail via agency anyway. And as for some VV locations, there's news sites that report the locations certain movies are being filmed at (like the sound stages or production addresses). You can't blame Fanmail.biz for ruining TTM collectors' fun all the time.
I've had a terrible time getting VV replies via Broadway anyway. Save for one reply last year, I haven't received anything back from stuff I mail to NYC.
I've always had great success writing via broadway, except for this year. It's been horrible! I think they realized how much more $$ they can make if they don't pass fanmail on or charge for PBs. Sad.

Sometimes production offices can't or won't pass on fanmail.

That's absolutely true, and you make a great point. There's a few actors/actresses I'm willing to try multiple times for, but mostly I stick to those who do reply TTM. Sadly, not all celebs are good with fanmail like Dana Delany is...vivalakayla wrote:

You say that like they're making money.vivalakayla wrote:I think they realized how much more $$ they can make if they don't pass fanmail on or charge for PBs. Sad.
They're soliciting donations.
Whether you like it or not, this is a great way for them to raise awareness of a cause they believe in and unite the theatres and shows behind something more than just the "Broadway" name.
If you other ideas for how they can get donations from the average fan who will otherwise never hear of their cause, I'm sure they'd love to hear them.
For everyone saying $50 is too much money, have you considered contacting the theatre asking if they'll accept less, as you can't afford the whole amount? When signings are done in exchange for a charitable donation, prices may not be set in stone, as that $20 donation is still money that the charity can use and wouldn't get otherwise.
