Anyone here Canadian? And in Canada...

Unread post by SolarShiva »

If so, could you help me with postage and how to get it?

My local post office doesn't have a clue what international reply coupons are, I asked years ago when I last mailed international for a pic, so they're no help. I'm going to be sending a request to Canada and this time want to send an SASE, but need some help with postage for getting it back.

Can someone who is Canadian and currently resides in Canada, help me out with this?

Thank you very much!

Canada Post website has all the price information and tools to find out the cost of your item.
They will also ship stamps direct to your door {up}

You are correct, unfortunately I seem to be doing something wrong as I get a price of $73-$75 when I attempt to calculate postage from there to me and I know there is no way that is correct. Especially seeing as someone else who had a picture mailed to her as a thank you still has the envelope and it was $2.20 on that postage, and she lives on the East Coast, it came from the West Coast of Canada and I live closer to the West Coast than she does. So I'm unsure what I'm doing wrong let alone how to get the correct amount of postage from the site once I do figure out how much I need.

Yeah, I'm really doing something wrong. I finally found another way to calculate via the buy postage online and its still wrong, it has to be based off what I said in my prior post. This time it's showing $16.71!

I don't know how else to figure this out! My God I don't know why our post office doesn't have a way to get postage from Canada, I mean, they are attached to us so how dang hard could it be to work something out?

Okay, well, the website print and ship didn't work so I couldn't do that. I ended up buying some stamps to be shipped to me. Per the website they're worth $1.20- the standard rate for mail from Canada to the US. So, if the one person who got something from this actor had it sent to her for $2.20(Canadian), would 2 of the $1.20 stamps- $2.40, suffice for a 12.5 x 9.5 bubble mailer or would 3 be a better bet to make sure it comes back to me with no problem?

Thank you for the help. Just wish there was an easier way to do this, but at least going the stamp route is cheaper than the print and ship labels.

I can help you I live in Canada...we don't have or use any international reply coupons so if you want something back from canada you will need to send along Canadian stamps or some American or Canadian cash and hope the person is willing to make the trip to the post office lol Best bet is sase with Canadian stamps.

Thank you Johnnylightning. So I did buy some Canadian stamps from the postal services website, still waiting for them to be sent but I just bought them yesterday so probably won't even be sent til Monday. Bought the $1.20 value ones as thats what the site says is the standard rate from Canada to the US, and there weren't many stamp options. As long as I put enough on the envelope, even if it is a cardboard one, that should work right? I think all they care about is that there is enough postage, doesn't have to be the postage they'd print out if you brought it there for postage. I bought a photo mailer from my post office and I'm hoping it will be an acceptable return envelope for your postal service as it says United States postal service on the back, but I could try Staples for one as I received a photo in a photo mailer that said Staples on it and that was it. My local post office said it would be $2.75 if I were mailing it from here to there, so 3 of the $1.20 stamps should be sufficient, 4 if I want to be safe, to get it back to me?

Thank you for the help. I really appreciate it. This is making me wish I knew my family that lives in Canada, Prince Edward Island apparently, but I've never met them let alone knew I had family there.

Okay, I think I have it figured out now. All I need to do is take the return envelope to work and weigh it on our postage meter to see how much it weighs.

It would be at the max of the non-standard and oversized letter post, below. Looks like if the weight is up to or under 100g(grams I'm assuming), it would be $2.95 so 3 of the $1.20 stamps would then be sufficient. But once I get the weight I guess I could always call the postal service too just to make sure.

MAX 380 x 270 x 20
(15 x 10.6 x 0.8 in)

You do need Canadian stamps to send a letter from Canada, but you don't need Canadian stamps for your return envelope. You would need stamps of the country from your envelope will be sent. For example, if you're sending to the UK, you will need UK stamps to stick them in your SAE. If you're sending to the US, you will need American stamps. If you're sending to Sweden, you will need Swedish stamps, and so on. Canadian stamps are valid when sending from Canada to another country, or they would be valid in a SASE if sending to a different location in Canada.

OP states they are sending a request to Canada.

So of course they will need Canadian return stamps on their SAE :)
