From the US to the UK

Unread post by totallyparker »

Hello, everyone,

I'm new here, and I have a long list of people to write to. But they all share one thing in common: Their fanmail addresses are in the UK. As a first-time autograph collector, and a long-time Doctor Who fan and American, how do I go about this? I have self-addressed envelopes, prints, 2 IRCs, and roughly 14 letters to post. How do I go about the rest? Won't I need a bigger envelope in order to include the SASE? How many IRCs do I need? How much should postage come to? Thank you.

You can fold your return envelope in half and place it in the outgoing envelope if you want, so you won't need bigger envelopes.

www.royal-mail.com/pricefinder is the UK postal service. Please note under Airmail rules for return items to be classed as "letter" it has to be under 5mm thick.

www.usps.com is the US postal service.

IRC's are no longer sold in the US so you won't be able to buy more. 2 IRC's will get you two replies if the envelope is thin and light. Otherwise use both for one request.

These other topics should help as international return postage questions get asked all the time.

Thank you very much! That answered all my questions, except one small question: Do I use US stamps on my LoR envelope? Or do I use international stamps?

You can use any kind of US stamps as long as they cover the cost of postage to the UK.

usps.com has a calculator, prices start from $1.15 for which they do a Global Forever Stamp {up}

I thought I had run out of questions...
I was frightfully wrong. For the SASE, I put the agency's address in the upper left corner.. Should I have done that, or no?

Don't worry. It would be better to put the return address, you know, just in case, but it's not mandatory! I don't put return addresses usually. Good luck!

Thank you very much! :) As soon as I pick up my UK stamps, I'll send them all off, then getting some prints of Peter Capaldi for him to hopefully sign.

Be aware Capaldi has been sending PPs out for a while as he can't keep up with the demand just now, and you might be in for disappointment. I got 16 in from him the other week, including two artworks and 12 signed official promo cards. Give me a shout if you're interested in anything and we'll see if we can work it out. :D
