He goes through a spell sometimes where he won't sign because he thinks people are selling his autograph. I'd keep an eye out for other successes and give it another try in a few months. Even then be sure to ensure him you aren't selling the autograph in the letter. Sometimes he'll open and then return everything saying he don't want people to sell the items so if you ensure him your a fan and leave a nice note then he'll sign it.
