International Stamp question

Unread post by brochester8 »

I sent fanmail to the UK for wrestler David Hart Smith aka harry smith/ Davey Boy Smith Jr on two WWE Cards. It's got to his agent in the UK easily and she held onto it until oct 3rd where she saw Harry and had him sign it for me. She also sent me the photo of the cards inscribed to both me and my son. She then mailed it back to me using the SASE I included with an international stamp on it, that I included. That was on October 6th and I still haven't gotten it back. Does anyone know if that's normal for mail coming from the UK.

I really hope to get this back but it's been over 3 weeks now, and I'm scared it got lost in the mail.

It really depends on how much postage was on the return envelope, if it was the bare minimal then you can assume to wait anywhere between 2-8 weeks, if it does not reach you by then you could try emailing them or sending a letter explaining again with extra postage.

If it does not show up, and you have to sent again, I would add excess postage just to make sure it's returned sooner rather than later.

Oh ok so the more postage the quicker. I'm glad to hear 2 to 8 weeks. Maybe it'll get here eventually. I figure one $1.10 international stamp would work for 2 trading cards and hopefully it does.

thanks for your response, it give me hope.

Oh dear there is your problem and the reason you haven't gotten your envelope back.
To get a letter from UK to USA you need UK postage.
US international stamps are for sending letters from the US worldwide. So no good for sending from UK to US.
The UK post office (like any other) will not accept foreign postage as payment to send a letter.
Perhaps the person who got your items signed put on some UK postage.

That's not cool, I asked my post office if that would work and they said it would. So next time should I use one of the coupon things and put it in the envelope.

Do you think they would return it to sender.

I've used the international stamps with Canada and they accept them for the return.

They shouldn't have said that, a US postal worker is not qualified to comment on the UK postal service.

I have no idea what will happen to your envelope.

IRC's are no longer sold in the US so you would need currency in GBP (£5 is our smallest note) or UK stamps.

Feel free to browse the forum because international return postage Q's get asked (and answered) many times.

Not exactly, you couldn't add on 10.00 of any currency to any photo/envelope and assume it will be faster, but there are various grades of speed your items are shipped at depending on which service you're paying for.

I have paid low shipping before to receive items at a much longer time period than when I have paid slightly more shipping on similar items, paying around $15 gets an item from the US to UK in around 2 weeks and I think that is standard international mail so it really does depend on certain factors.

Also, you need UK stamps on your return envelope if you're wanting to get the item back to you, somebody in the US cannot use US stamps on a UK to US parcel, and somebody in the UK cannot use UK stamps to get a parcel back from the US.

I would inform the head of your mailing office and tell them you were informed the method was OK to use, when it was not, and I would start from scratch again and just take the hit that you live and learn.

Good luck.

Okay so I wrote David Hart Smith's agent to confirm that she used my stamp and she did not. She actually said she paid for my shipping because her post office said my stamp wouldn't work. Therefore, Maybe I'll get it soon!!

Good news.

That's nice of them to do that for you, but now you know in future to acquire stamps from the country you need the item returned from before sending.
