Should I use different country's stamps when sending?

Unread post by catsareforever17 »

In the past I have always just used US stamps, but now I'm getting more serious about collecting. Should start using the country I'm sending to stamps? I'm guessing doing this saves money. What country's stamps should I be using? I have a lot of questions about collecting so if you're okay with me pming with questions please say so. I could use all the help i can get! Thanks :)

You should always use the stamps of the country where the letter will be posted - they are the only ones that will work.

ie. I live in the UK and recently sent to Glenn Close in the USA.

Therefore - the initial letter is posted in the UK - that needs UK stamps.

The SSAE will (hopefully!) be posted in the US - so that needs US stamps.

Hope that's cleared it up for you!

Also, use the regional postage checker online as the cost of overseas letters differs greatly.

For example, a standard letter from US - UK is $1.15 (about 85p), but the same letter from UK - US is £2.15 (about $3.40).

So even if i'm sending ordinarily from the US I should use UK stamps? I can drop the letter off in a US mailbox with uK stamps and they're send it?

You send an envelope with the stamps from your country, inside that envelope you include a second envelope with the stamps from the country you're sending to, so that the person may send it back to you.

Somebody in the UK cannot use US stamps to send an item.

No because you use the stamps of the country that you're posting it in. In this example you're posting it in the US so you need US stamps. If you're sending to the UK then your SSAE (which will be in your original envelope) needs UK stamps.
