Gene Wilder Failure
Sent a letter, SASE, and DVD cover of Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory. It's obviously stamped and I hear he's charging $200 for signatures now. Wasn't surprised to get it stamped, just disappointed that it's come down to this. I'm not going to tell everyone my sob story about how bad I wanted that signature or how upset this has made me. This has taught me a lesson more than anything, never have faith in anyone and dreams don't come true unless you have money.
Just want to let people know that Gene Wilder apparently won't sign through the mail anymore unless you're some rich bastard that can throw $200 around like it's pocket change.
Also, I would have attached a picture but I don't know how, nor do I care to learn how.

Re: Gene Wilder Failure
Whilst I agree that it's a shame for his fans, and also that $200 is crazy money, I don't understand why people think that any actor/singer/whoever owes them anything. I mean, sure, $200 is a lot, but he's an old man, who hasn't made a film for years and was at his peak when movies were hardly paying the money they are today, and he probably wants to add to his families nest-egg for when he's gone, so if people are willing to pay that money, why not make it for a while? He's been a brilliant signer for years, totally for free, as hundreds upon hundreds of people have sent him multiple items to sign (vast amounts of which have then been sold on for good money). It's a cold hard fact, but it's true sadly.
Can I just say, this isn't a pop at anyone or anything, I guess just thinking out loud why he'd do this now.

That's a shame. I had a TTM success with him back in November. Hopefully he'll go back to it after the private signing is done.

Re: Gene Wilder Failure
I get the feeling that he's been 'persuaded' to stop for the time being to get the most paid-for signings he can during his $200 stint and then he'll be back to being Mr Generous again ... we hope!zach8270 wrote:That's a shame.
